About this Cook
I'm married and the mother of 3 active teens. I stopped working when we moved to the Czech Republic, and that has given me more time for cooking. Learning the differences at the grocery store keeps it challenging.
My favorite things to cook
Homemade meatball subs, chicken fried rice, and soups have been favored things to cook lately.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Family dinners are when all my brothers and sisters gather at our father's home. Fresh kielbasa at Easter, Polish Meatballs at Christmas, and Charlotte Russe as a birthday cake. Well worth the drive!
My cooking triumphs
Stuffed lasagne rolls, perogies from this site, and homemade tortillas (also from this site) are the things I'm most proud of making.
My cooking tragedies
I try to put the tragedies behind me, and vow never to speak of them again.

Chex(R) Apple Pie Snack Mix
Very tasty...my family devoured it while watching the game and awaiting Thanksgiving dinner. One note for those who have problem melting the white chips in the microwave...use a double boiler instead. Bring water to a boil over medium heat, add the top pot, making sure the water doesn't touch the top pot. Add chips and shortening, stirring constantly. It will be melted and creamy in about 5 minutes this way without seizing up.

Lola's Horchata
I've spent most my life in Arizona, and horchata is so good on a hot day. This recipe is tasty and so easy! I've made it as written (make sure you use whole milk for best flavor), and have also made it with vanilla soy milk (VERY yummy!). I add the cinnamon to the rice before soaking...it seams to incorporate into the liquid better that way, instead of floating on the top. I don't know how well this keeps in the refrigerator, because there's never any left over! Thank you Lola for the recipe.

Slovak Sauerkraut Christmas Soup
This is absolutely delicious...so full of flavor! I'm living in the Czech Republic at the moment, and it tastes just like the soup served in my favorite local restaurant. The only change I made was to substitute cream for sour cream, as it was what I had on hand. Thank you for the recipe.
