I worked in the restaurant industry as a prep cook and a baker for 15 years but am now a professional mom with 2 toddler boys and a teenage daughter to feed! Ive put on a little extra weight since the birth of my sons so im experimenting with a lot more healthy cooking. Bananas and nuts have replaced my usual breakfast of grits and eggs. But it is not nearly as bad as i thought it would be. Also my new favorite dinner is a big salad add lean protein. Aren't diets grand!;)
My favorite things to cook
I love making the big southern style veggie meals, greens and peas, fried okra and corn, cornbread. I love to bake cookies, cakes, and especially pie. Mostly I just love to experiment. my tastes are pretty diverse and i was blessed with non-picky kids to cook for. They pretty much love everything i cook.
My favorite family cooking traditions
The holidays! November is my pie making month and December is my cookie making month. I always bake way too much and then pass out all the extras to everyone i know. We like to do every Holiday in a big way. Last Mardi Gras I made bourbon chicken, gumbo, creole corn and bread pudding.Any excuse to cook!
My cooking triumphs
I really do make the best sandwiches ever. My Party sub sandwiches are famous! Braised pork chops are part of the reason my husband fell in love with me. My cowboy cavair and potato salad are also heavily requested for parties.
My cooking tragedies
CANNOT make a biscuit! I try and try and they are like hockey pucks. Thats practically a crime in the south!
