My name is Meaghean. I am twenty-one years old an Airman in the United States Navy and am recently married. We are originally from Southern Louisiana but we just moved to Virginia for my first permanant duty station. We moved into what I think is the most adorable neighborhood. While I really do love the area I'm in, Virginia is absolutely georgeous and so full of American History, I must say is a bit of a culture shock compared to home.
My favorite things to cook
Anything that reminds me of home. Mostly anything that I can remember my mom making as I was growing up. My husband and I host a game night every weekend with another couple stationed here in town. So anything that isn't necessarily easy to make, but easy and fun to serve. Tonight, tacos, and quesdaillas.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Well I did mention that I was from Southern Louisiana. So gumbo would definately be the number one traditional mean. Crawfish ettoufee, saffron rice, not the quickest meals, but definately the most delicious meal in the famliy history.
My cooking triumphs
I would say that being that most of what I am cooking right now, I am cooking for the first time, it would all be a triumph. Especially when the people I am cooking for all would believe that I have been cooking for years.
My cooking tragedies
About three years ago I was making dinner for my mom, because she had to work late. At this point cooking for me was like trying to learn another language, still is a little. Well I was cooking with an iron pot, on a gas stove. I had started to burn the hamburger meat, so I just took the pot of the stove and put it on a pot holder, you know the kind Grandma crochets. Anyway, the pot holder stuck to the bottom of the pot, obviously. Well me being as smart as I was at seventeen put the pot (with the pot holder) back on the stove. And not half a second later it goes up in flames. I threw some salt on it and took it off the stove. I had to literally peel the pot holder off the pot and finish cooking in another pot. Everything was fine though, well except the pot holder. I'm not sure if you could really call is a "cooking" tragedy though, dinner was good, a little salty but still good.
