About this Cook
I love to eat. Really, I'll try any type of food. I want Anthony Bourdain's job so badly =..= My one weakness is properly cooked sushi. I moved from my home town (where we had a great sushi restaurent that I ate at all the time) to northern Arkansas where sushi is not common. So I decided to see if I could cook sushi for myself. I've been pleasantly surprised :)
My favorite things to cook
I love Asian foods, but oddly enough I just love cooking things that people enjoy. Of course, if I'm cooking for myself, I sway towards my own preferences varying according to my mood. Sometimes it's simple, sometimes it's Mom's southern recipes, and sometimes it's foreign cuisine. It all depends on who I'm cooking for, and what's most enjoyable :)
My favorite family cooking traditions
Mom and I started this thing after I bought a DVD camcorder. I started filming her as she made favorite dishes. Since Mom's name is Clara, we titled it "Cooking with Clara" :)
My cooking triumphs
My first real meal was all Asian. I made chicken & vegetable fried rice, egg rolls and my own variation of Shrimp Lo Mein. We all sat down and hesitantly started eating, and everyone was really surprised at how good it was! I had never really been a cook before, and I'd thought that I couldn't cook, so it was a great confidence boost. Now, I really want to learn to cook more :D
My cooking tragedies
My 13th birthday was what turned me off to cooking so tragically. My mother was the only one there to celebrate with me, and she had hurt her back very badly. We had made plans to bake a cookie cake, but since she was hurt, I had to try it myself. She tried to help, but it was mostly on me. Well, I went to take the skillet out of the oven with a wet towel, and scalded myself. Mom and I both ended up hurting that day :|
