About this Cook
I'm a southern girl at heart, but I'm living in sunny Minnesota right now ;) I cook for a living at an upscale restaurant in the area, but I also enjoy coming home to feed my family something new and exciting, or a long-time favorite.
My favorite things to cook
My favorite things to cook are also the things that I am best at cooking ( I think most of us are that way). I love making things that I know people will enjoy. My top selections are my cheesecake, homemade alfredo sauce, bbq ribs, and any kind of pasta.
My favorite family cooking traditions
making oatmeal drop cookies with my mom, sweet potatoes with marshmallows on top for holidays, making pinwheels for church potlucks, deviled eggs, catfish fries, basically any cooking with my mother (who loves to tweak and substitute ingredients, usually resulting in disappointment) or grandma, and amaretto chicken with wild rice.
My cooking triumphs
recently receiving a raise at my restaurant, winning over his dad with a blueberry cheesecake, perfecting my green chili chimichangas, and when the regulars at the bar& Grill where I was the sole cook for 2 years told me that the older, more experienced chef that was coming in "just couldn't fill my shoes" Also learning to cook for Northerners, which means that I can't just fry it and let er buck, I have to turn it into a casserole or as they say up here "hot-dish"
My cooking tragedies
my first attempt at bbq ribs, my last batch of chicken tortilla soup (hopelessly scorched), the first batch of fudge my mother and I ever made (more like chocolate syrup), my last batch of oregano aioli (broke on me before I even got good and started, had to try 3x before i got it right)
