About this Cook
I am a single Mom of 4 children. I have a 19, 17, 13 and 3 year old and everyone has there own likes and dislikes. Like most people, we are on a fixed budget. Unlike most people, our fixed income is extremely LOW. I work the night shift so I have more time with my children but that makes cooking for dinner a little harder. I dislike cooking 'Boxed Meals' like Hamburger Helper more then once a week. I like to have 2 more complicated dinners on my nights off and slow cooker meals the other 4 nights.
My favorite things to cook
My favorite menus that I cook is anything that meets our 'goals.' Meals must be flavorable, enjoyed but a majority of the family, and must be within our food budget. This is very challenging but ALOT of fun! I am designing a special portable recipe book that allows you to plan your menu in the meat department based on what is the best deal. After you decide what your menu will be by what meats cuts are the best deal, you can 'compose' your shopping list by aisle in less then 3 minutes.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Family dinner night is my favorite night of the week. Family Dinner night is anything that takes the entire family to prepare and cook. We prefer something that takes less then 45 minutes to prepare but everyone has a 'job.' It is great family time and makes eating the dinner together so rewarding.
My cooking triumphs
Best part of cooking is when I can teach my children something new. I love exposing my children to new flavors, cooking techniques or presentation of a meal. All my children can cook and I even have one culinary student. She still claims I have taught her more then the school has about cooking.
My cooking tragedies
Being on a fixed budget makes it hard because it limits you to what meat you can afford. Chicken is great but not every night of the week. Watching sales and having a special designed travel recipe books makes shopping so much easier.
