About this Cook
I love to cook for others. It makes me really happy when I see that someone else is enjoying something that I have made. However, I would rather people be honest and tell me what they REALLY think of the meal so I can improve. I have 2 sisters who are my best friends in the world. I also have 2 dogs and 2 cats that I love very much too. I love to spend time with my family and try to do so at every opportunity. We grew up in sunny SoCal and all of us love it here. I was in the military for a while and enjoyed that very much. I have 3 wonderful nephews that I adore even when they are being mischevious (which is most of the time).
My favorite things to cook
I love to cook my Mom's recipes. They are foods that I grew up with and absolutely LOVE. Most are Mexican but she has some pretty awesome breads in there too. I love to bake as well and I always make my own buttercream frosting. I just think it tastes so much better.
My favorite family cooking traditions
My Mom, sisters and I always make tamales at Christmas. Well actually we make more of a mess than anything but the result is wonderful. Then we invite family over to share them with.
My cooking triumphs
My greatest triumph was when I made my Mom's recipe for Caldo de Res (Mexican Beef Stew) for my family and my Dad thought my Mom made it instead of me. He's a very picky eater and when Dad says it's good then you know you've hit it out the park. It is now one of my most requested dishes from family and friends and I truly enjoy making it.
My cooking tragedies
I once tried to make a sour cream frosting and YUCK! I had to throw it out and I will NEVER try that one again. there have been other tragedies but the list is too long to even try.
