About this Cook
38 year old "Jersey Girl" now living in Saint Augustine, Florida. Married mom of two teenagers, Nicole and Sam. I work at a small local market that sells beautiful, fresh meat, seafood and produce.
My favorite things to cook
I am a dessert maker - Not professional by any means, but my family loves desserts - cookies, cakes, puddings, candy. My husband is the entree maker.
My favorite family cooking traditions
My grandmother always made full course meals when we went to her house, and my mom told me growing up they ate a full dinner every single night, including dessert. My mom was one of the new breed of "working moms" in the 70's and 80's when I was growing up, so simple and "semi-homemade" was her thing. My 17 year old son now takes culinary classes in his high school.
My cooking triumphs
Teaching my teenage kids to cook. My son is a natural, my daughter, well, god bless her husband someday when she marries, she reminds me of Debra from Everyone loves Raymond. My three nephews, aged 9, 10, and 11 spend the weekends with us and they are developing a passion for cooking with us as well.
My cooking tragedies
Oh I have a tragedy at least once a week where I overcook noodles, or burn the meat on the grill, etc. I have so many things going on at once when I get home from work every day that I tend to wander off and get sidetracked!

Sherry Apple Pork Chops
I made this using thick boneless pork chops that I soaked in a brine for an hour or two beforehand...I seasoned the brine with some of the same flavors as this dish (brown sugar, apples, cinnamon, also some smashed garlic cloves, a bit of thyme). Then followed this recipe...and I had two family members say they were the best pork chops they have ever had. I did also sprinkle some thyme on with the salt and pepper (I had some fresh thyme that day, can you tell?). Out of this world!

Amish White Bread
Very easy....very good! After 30 minutes of rising in the bread pans, it wasn't super high, but after 30 minutes in the oven, I couldn't believe how much it had risen! And it was perfect, through and through, and sliced like a dream.

Egg Foo Young
I tweaked the recipe a bit with the vegetables, omitting bean sprouts and adding mushrooms and water chesnuts. My first attempt at egg foo young (which is my personal standard order when we order chinese) and it was delicious! For the gravy we just mixed a jar of chicken gravy with a little bit of soy sauce.
