The Family Mugshot
About this Cook
I am thinking about building a smoker for meats. I'm a pretty successful Deer hunter. I like doing most anything with venison. I would like to get into smoking meats.
My favorite things to cook
Pho. Cooking in the Kettle. Like to can meats and veggies/salsa.
My favorite family cooking traditions
I have a 25 to 30 gallon cast iron kettle mounted on a tripod. We take it camping in the summer. I've made jambalaya that has fed 30 people. We have made popcorn that has fed the whole campground in which we were staying. My girls like going around and giving it out.
My cooking triumphs
Chicken Pho... Vietnamese noodle soup, Venison Bologna.. pretty tasty
My cooking tragedies
Scallop Quiche!!!...Kids ran the other way!! Pumpkin Cheesecake w/lime zest.... Guests left early!!! Over grilled venison. Now I know how they make shoe leather.

Ketchup
This is awesome!! I make Pho (Vietnamese noodle soup. I use star anise for that dish as well. My wife doesn't care too much for ketchup. She loves this. I am going to try and tripple the batch so that I can do some canning. I had fresh basil leaves from my garden. That added a twist. Excellent recipe!!!

Sweet and Sour Sauce II
This was about as good as it gets!!!! The whole family loved this sauce. We made it for egg roles. I split the sauce dish. The one I left alone. To the other, I added some ground up habanero pepper. That added some bite! Great recipe!!!

Whoopie Pies
We have a Kitchen aid 5 Qt. mixer. This made the mixing process easier. These little guys turned out like my mom used to make. This originally comes from a German background(Pennsylvania Dutch). Very good texture. I empathize with the other reviews. The wafers are bland and only go good with a sweet filling. That is how I remember it when I was a boy. My mother knew that I stole one because her count didn't come out even. Great recipe.
