As my youngest is leaving for college in August '09 I look forward to doing a lot more cooking for my husband and I... although I do NOT look forward to the empty nest! More grown-up dinners will be great. I love to create my own recipe cards to send family, friends, clients, business associates, with photos of the dish on outside and recipe inside. I have a terrific program that makes it VERY easy to do and beautifully presented! It's a wonderful way to keep in touch and people love to receive them. Let me know if I can send one to you! tari@appreciationworks.biz
My favorite things to cook
Baking is definitely my favorite. Sweet stuff. And I enjoy having a few family members for a "home style" family dinner - nothing extravagant - just simple good cooking. My husband prefers to cook or grill, so we make a great team! I'm definitely a recipe person.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Holiday treats; Homemade pizza; Simple Mexican; My aunt from Germany makes a killer salad with balsamic vinaigrette that is incredible. My mom was the queen of "Make it now bake it later" as a busy entrepreneur. Her signature dish we had at least twice a week growing up: Chicken, Mushroom soup, jar of Onions, and sometimes Brocolli. Bake 2 hrs or so. Chicken Kabobs from a recipe in the Christian Science Monitor my aunt cut out about 30 years ago is still a family stand-by loved by all.
My cooking triumphs
Strawberry Cream Pie! Chocolate Cream Pie. Not any more - I just can't stand to make piecrust. Cinnamon rolls (breadmaker dough); Boiled Shrimp (in shells - throw on the table and pick away); Boiled Haddock (it really is good); Carrott cake; Chocolate-chocolate-chocolate cake.
My cooking tragedies
Thankfully I don't remember - although I'm sure I have them. I like to experiment on company - which drives my husband crazy!!
