About this Cook
The glitz, glam, and fabulous vacations are great sometimes but I'm most satisfied with simplicity.Put me in the woods in a tent surrounded by nature and I'm at peace. I'm a huge do-it-youself person. I'm good at research and read a lot. I'm also home school two of my three children.
My favorite things to cook
I'm really good at baking anything.I prefer to cook from scratch. Steven Raichlin on BBQU is my new favorite TV cook. I like to grill food. Christmas candies and holiday foods I also enjoy. Eating out makes me feel guilty for wasting my money on something I can easily make at home.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Seafood Gumbo is the main entree at our Christmas meal. We eat the regular holiday foods at everyone else's.Christmas morning we have a piece of Jesus' birthday cake first. Homemade gingerbread men and houses are also a must.
My cooking triumphs
I've finally learned how to make good buttermilk biscuits!
My cooking tragedies
The art of traditional breadmaking fascinates me. Sometimes I can make good bread and other times not. I love the smell of yeast breads. Don't put shrimp heads in when making a shrimp stock! It will smell like amonia.

School Cafeteria Peanut Butter Cookies
I've tried this twice. Very dry. Takes to long to cook. Maybe it is because I downsized the recipe for 12 servings.I did read the footnote and gave them a try anyway. Will not make for home use again.

Sweet Restaurant Slaw
My husband loves this recipe! The red cabbage in the slaw mix dyed the slaw a little. I'll chop my cabbage next time. My go to slaw recipe.

Barbie's Tuna Salad
A change from the norm. I make this often. Curry makes this dish superb.
