Lemon Snowballs

Reviewed: Dec. 21, 2009
Followed recipe exactly and they turned out perfect! Could be one of my new favorite holiday cookies! I may even add more lemon next time; however, they are great as written. Make sure you wait the 5 minutes to roll in the powdered sugar.

Add a little grated orange rind and juice from the same orange. You will go nuts over the aroma throughout your house. Plus, the taste is amazing!

Pistachio Cake IV

Reviewed: Oct. 22, 2009
I love this cake, a friend used to make it many years ago. But I live in Denver and the two times I've attempted it fell in the center. Does anyone have high altitude suggestions? This doesn't happen when I make a cake mix with no additions. Only when the mix is altered. Thanks!

These disappear very fast. I added some minced garlic but that is a personal preference. These are great just as written!

I only added a about a tsp or 2 of cinnamon (personal preference). Yum! Thinking of making this again today!

Fudge

Reviewed: Mar. 28, 2009
I tried this first as written and really liked the results. Tried a second time with milk choc. chips and went crazy over it. I lined the 8x8 pan with foil, then sprayed with Pam. I also melted the chips in a double boiler instead of the microwave. Chilled before cutting. Came out perfectly! This has to be the best and easiest fudge. Thanks!

Apple Pie

Reviewed: Aug. 18, 2008
We've been making this stuff for years. We follow the same ingredients except we only use 1 cup of sugar and it is always sweet enough for us. I recommend experimenting with the lesser amount and adding more as needed. Also, once we strain the mixture and divide into the separate bottles, we add a few extra cinnamon sticks to the final product. The extra sticks really boost the cinnamon flavor as it blends over time, plus it looks nice when giving as gifts. This is a standard for the holidays around our house and for all festive gatherings. It honestly tastes like you are drinking apple pie.

Roasted New Red Potatoes

Yum. I added a little Italian seasoning to a Ziploc bag with the potatoes, olive oil, salt/pepper and tossed to coat, then cooked in a baking dish sprayed with Pam. Cooked perfectly and tasted great!

Hudson's Baked Tilapia with Dill Sauce

Didn't really change much. I didn't have fresh dill so I used a smaller amount of a dill mix. Otherwise I did it just like the directions. Yummy!

Taco Salad I

Reviewed: Sep. 3, 2006
We've been making a variation of this salad for years. We use a can of drained Ranch Style beans instead of chili beans. Catalina French instead of regular French. And Fritos brand corn chips. We also add a chopped onion. We only cook the meat with the seasoning mix and add the beans and dressing later kind of ala carte with the remaining items. We toss only the lettuce, tomatoes, onions and cheese together and then keep all other ingredients seperate so people can add or not add the items they prefer. A little of the dressing tossed in individual bowls with everything else is really the best way to get the flavor without overpowering the salad. This is almost a standard for SuperBowl games in our group.

Easy Slow Cooker French Dip

Reviewed: Aug. 21, 2006
Wow great recipe! I couldn't find a rump roast so I substituted two 2.5 lbs round roasts since I was having guests over. I sprinkled the meat with garlic salt and then seared them in a little oil before putting in the crock pot. Even though I had more meat than the recipe calls for, I still only used one can each of the soups and one can of beer. I did use one package of au jus and a few splashes of worstershire sauce to taste. My guests all liked it very much and asked for the recipe. I feel like the dipping sauce was a little salty but still very good. I may use garlic powder next time. The meat does get very tender so it makes sense to slice before it's done, but no one cared that the meat was more shredded than sliced. It was a hit. Thanks I'll be making this one again.

The Perfect Marinade

Marinated a flank steak overnight and it turned out very tender on the grill. The taste was a little salty, so I may add something sweet like brown sugar or something. Will prepare again.

Awesome Slow Cooker Pot Roast

Reviewed: Nov. 14, 2003
I've been making this pot roast for years. If the roast has a lot of fat, then don't add very much liquid (water or wine) your gravy will be way to runny. Don't forget to add carrots, onions and potatoes. Works just as well with a pork roast and I've even done this with chicken breasts. But pot roast is most definate the favorite!

Easy Homemade Chili

Reviewed: Nov. 2, 2003
I liked this recipe because I had all the ingredients in stock. I used a can of Ranch Style beans instead of kidney. (personal preference) I added one can condensed tomato soup which gave it a nice consistency. In addition to the spices listed, I added cumin, paprika and a little cayenne pepper to taste. Very nice on a cold fall day!

Green Chili Stew

Reviewed: Sep. 14, 2003
Very good recipe. I prefer pork, so I cubed a small pork roast and browned with the onions and some garlic. Also, I use chicken broth instead of beef, about 3 to 4 cans depending on size of roast and the amount of potatoes. If you have access to a farmers market that offers roasted green chilis I highly recommend using those instead of canned (takes about 6 to 8 large ones). Fall is the season for roasted green chilis but aren't available in all areas of the country. Enjoy!

Wisconsin Bratwurst

This recipe is great! I add yellow and green bell peppers with the onions and beer. The best way to cook these prior to grilling is in the crock pot. Just cook on high for a couple of hours prior to grilling.

Country Fried Steak and Milk Gravy

Reviewed: Feb. 23, 2003
This was my first ever attempt at chicken fried steak and it turned out great. Used seasoned salt in the dredging flour and then I salted and peppered the meat before dipping in flour and egg stuff. My gravy turned out too thick, but that was my fault, I should have added more milk. Will make again!

Burgundy Pork Tenderloin

Reviewed: Feb. 14, 2003
Very good overall. I had two pork loins at about a pound each. I browned both in a little olive oil first and the meat still looked a little gray, but when you slice it prior to serving and pour the gravy over it you can't tell anymore. Didn't really measure the wine, just poured until I thought there was enough. Also sliced some mushrooms with the veggies. Used 2 packs of brown gravy mix and it was awesome with side of baked potatoes. If you're not a fan of wine, don't use the 2 cups. We really enjoyed it and will prepare again.

Zebra Cake

Reviewed: Feb. 10, 2003
So yummy! For Valentine's Day one year, I seperated half the whipped cream and mixed in some raspberry preserves to one half. I used the raspberry portion to spread between the wafers to make the cake part. (Made 2 side by side logs instead of one long one) Then I covered the entire "cake" with the plain whipped cream and garnished with fresh raspberries and chocolate sprinkles on top. It was quite a hit with my boyfriend. I have also used strawberry preserves as well.
