About this Cook
I am recently retired and learning to cook. The recipes and reviews on this site have been very helpful to me. I think the hobbies list on this site needs to be expanded to include more diverse interests like golf, watching football and beer drinking.
My favorite things to cook
Cincinnati style chili or home-made spaghetti and meat balls.
My cooking triumphs
The first time I made macaroni and cheese my wife raved to her friends about how good it was. No one had ever reacted like that to anything I had made before.
My cooking tragedies
The first pie I made looked like Key Lime soup in a pie crust.

Sweet and Tangy Slow Cooker Bar-B-Q Pork
I made per the recipe except I omitted the bell pepper and I browned the ribs for 10 minutes per side at 400. I used a vidalia sweet onion. The sauce was really tasty, but the ribs were pretty dry. I guess my ribs were leaner than most or I browned them too long. Next time I will reduce the browning time. Served with baked potato and green beans. I will definetly try this one again.

Savory Garlic Marinated Steaks
I've been a member on this site for a few years and usually enjoy the recipes I've found here. I followed the recipe exactly as written and marinated them for 1-1/2 days.. My NY Strips tasted like vinegar and I still have the aftertaste in my mouth. And the steaks were not even any more tender than without the marinade. saturday night.

Ham and Swiss Stromboli
This was really good. I made this per the recipe except I used Real Bacon Bits instead of bacon. The fillings can really be any type of cheese and pizza topping combination. Maybe next time I will use a marinara sauce as well.
