About this Cook
I am a farm girl trying to raise 4 children and a husband to be good and earth friendly. We grow probably about 60% of our own food including chickens, eggs and beef. After the birth of my fourth and LAST child I have shed all of the baby weight and am now thinner than I have ever been in my life. It will be a challenge to stay this way, and I know it, over the long winter we have here.
My favorite things to cook
I like to cook whatever people will eat. Comfort food, things that taste good, look good and are good for you.
My favorite family cooking traditions
My Mom's Mom was a culinary student in Germany, she was an amazing cook, so is my Mom. Her favourite cookbook was/is still The Purity Cookbook. My sister found copies on the internet for us all one Christmas. It was like hitting paydirt. I also love Best of Bridge. My Mom makes the best Easter Egg Bread and Christmas bread wreaths. No one makes gravy like my Mom either. My sister and I do canning, truffles, candy making, and even been known to do some catering in the past.
My cooking triumphs
I am known for my cheesecakes and my hot pepper jelly. Oh, and my Bailey's truffles, that have morphed into whatever alcolol you would like truffle. They have been the favour of a few weddings and many Christmas parties. I have also been known to make some favourable kids party cakes, although not trained, they take me waaayyyy too long and really have not made any money doing this. My husband loves everything I make, he's my greatest fan. Between me and my two sisters, we rule at any chili making contest.
My cooking tragedies
I am in great need of a new oven, every cake I make now is skinny on one side and half cooked on the other. I have been known to overcook a piece of meat or two, although not since my handy dandy stick in the oven digital thermometer, except that time the kids took it and reset it from celcius to farenheit or vice versa and I nearly cooked a roast to "death".

Beef Cabbage Hash
This is a great little recipe. I have made it a few times now a few different ways. I have used left over mashed potatoes, awesome, and to make it a complete meal I like to add a can of diced tomatoes. Surprisingly, all four of my kids love it and my cabbage weary husband too!

Creamy Pear Pie
This was great! My Dad, son and husband went out and picked about three bushels of not really ripe pears and have been bugging me to make them something with them. All three of them loved this pie, and thanks to AR for the advice of baking a pie in a paper bag, it was golden and beautiful too!

Clone of a Cinnabon
This was really fat fluffy dough, I loved how it looked, I don't know if it was just my oven, but I had gooey dough on the bottom and browned tops,so that was a bummer. There was way too much cinnamon in this recipe, I used what was called for. It left my toddlers skin flaming red around her mouth, no need for that much, I will only use maybe 2 tsp. next time. Oh, yes there will be a next time, I am rating this recipe as is for now though.
