My name is Kim and i'm a scratch baker for the Historic Riverside Inn in Cambridge Springs,Pa. I have been working in the food service industry since I was 16 yrs old. Although I have worked at every avenue in a restaurant setting, baking has always been my passion. I have not been professionaly trained, but have learned my skills in the workplace and through trial and error.
My favorite things to cook
So far my favorite item to bake is EVERYTHING. I don't really have a favorite in the fact that no matter what you are cooking and baking, each dish represents it's own set of challenges, and to me, that's reward in itself
My favorite family cooking traditions
My whole family gathers at my sister's house very Christmas morning and my brother-in-law and I always have fun trying to outdo each other on making a special dish for the family.
My cooking triumphs
I consider it a triumph when I create something different, and my kids actually like it! At work, though, I was given a recipe that had been at the Hotel for many years, with no directions and one day to create this dessert for a gourmet group that was coming in. I'm happy to say, that with the help of this website, it turned out great!
My cooking tragedies
Thank goodness there's not too many of those! The most recent was a problem I encountered at work. The equipment I work on is very old, and even with good upkeep, problems will occur. This particular night, the motor that turns my oven shelves decided to stop working, and of course, all 6 shelves were completely full of bread, bread pudding and pies. Most burnt and few things could be salvaged
