Hi Everyone! My name is Kate and I am beginning to build my cooking skills and recipe collection as a wife and mother to two busy, little boys! I have used this website as a non-subscriber for a year or so and love the helpful hints and recipe suggestions...it has certainly helped me "wow" quite a few people at summer picnics and family get togethers!
My favorite things to cook
I really like to find healthy, tasty recipes for my family that are quick, easy, and use everyday ingredients! Also, my family has quite a sweet tooth so dessert recipes that call for berries and other fresh fruits usually become quick favorites!
My favorite family cooking traditions
I come from a very large family--I am the oldest of seven children!--so my cooking memories usually involve cooking for a crowd! My heritage is largely Greek so I have a lot of beautiful memories of watching my Yiayia present fresh spanikopita and baklava!
My cooking triumphs
I won the "First Annual Apple Pie Competition" at the hospital where I work by making "Apple Pie by Grandma Ople" featured on this site! Since then, I get tons of requests for that pie--especially from my husband!
My cooking tragedies
The first dish I made as a married woman for my husband was a Thai peanut curry dish that called for hot sauce. I used a few tablespoons from a bottle of hot sauce that we had picked up on our honeymoon in St. Lucia. Long story short, both my husband and I could only tolerate one or two bites before we were tearing up and running for the water. My husband tried to be sweet and eat it without complaining (or exploding, for that matter!) but, like I said, was only able to get a few bites in! Ugh. :o)
