About this Cook
I am a 20-year-old college student majoring in Food Science. I have only recently gotten into cooking, and much of the way I learned was through trial and error in teaching myself. As a ballet dancer who LOVES food, yet has always been concerned with healthy eating, I look to make recipes that are healthy and yet still delicious and enjoyable. I use every attempt as a learning experience as well to learn more about the science involved in creating dishes.
My favorite things to cook
I love making all kinds of baked goods! I'm still conquering the multitasking involved with cooking complex meals.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Baking cookies on Saturdays during football season.
My cooking triumphs
Learning to cook is a triumph in and of itself for me. I taught myself nearly everything I know.
My cooking tragedies
There have been a few attempts at making dishes healthier that are clearly not meant to be healthy.

Pumpkin Honey Butter
Delicious! I can't wait to serve this will rolls at Thanksgiving dinner! I do feel I should note this is SUPER sweet! If you're not into sweets or sweet butters, this will probably not be for you. It is just right for my family, though! It seems like a lot of honey, but the great amount of pumpkin pie spice evens it out. My family does not like a strong pumpkin flavor, so this had just the right amount of pumpkin that was not overpowering.

Dawn's Easy Red Velvet Sandwich Cookies
Delicious! I used a teaspoon of vanilla in place of the bourbon, fat free cream cheese for the icing, and left out the coconut completely. My parents and I loved these! The frosting is pretty runny. I will have to play with that some or try a different one. I recommend not putting too much icing in the sandwiches or you'll create a mess (tempting, I know - it's delicious!). I think these would be great individually frosted and topped with pecans, too. I love how the texture is not very cake like - it's super moist and really tastes like a cookie! Can't wait to try this with a carrot cake mix! This is definately a keeper.

Big Soft Ginger Cookies
I made this recipe exactly as written and had no problems whatsoever. I made one batch having flattened the cookies and left the rest of the batches in balls, and the results were about the same. The cookies left in balls came out only a little thicker than those I had flattened, and I had no preference about their size anyway. I would love to find a way to make this into a gingerbread man recipe because the taste is SO much better! It is a lighter flavor than a gingerbread cookie - not as "spicy". Delicious! I topped with the "Vanilla Glaze" from this site, and everyone loved them and asked for the recipe.
