Half college student, half whirlwind, all adventurous! I've been dragging my formerly-picky-eater-husband along with me on my journey to find the healthiest, tastiest, most inexpensive, entertaining-to-make-and-hard-to-screw-up food.
My favorite things to cook
I LOVE from-scratch cooking and exploring meatless options, as well as finding more and better ways to substitute healthier options (such as apple sauce instead of oil).
My favorite family cooking traditions
I grew up with an orchard out back, and four pie cherry trees. My dad, brother and I would pick the cherries, and mom would make the pies. The pies were always really sour at the beginning of the summer, because we couldn't stand to wait for them to completely ripen. To this day, we still have sour cherry pies at the beginning of summer, and sweeter ones at the end.
My cooking triumphs
I made my first pie, strawberry rhubarb, all by myself at age seven. I have also sneaked more spinach, zucchini, and apple sauce into more dishes for my twenty-something male friends than an entire Sunday market.
My cooking tragedies
I cooked my first meal as a married woman for my husband, bow tie pasta - and overcooked it to the point where I had glue in the pan (we ordered out for pizza instead). I also can't tell you how many cakes I've frosted before they've cooled.
