About this Cook
I am married to an artist for 52 years. We won't leave Racine to retire somewhere where it's warmer. I love to cook for friends and family. Have written 3 cookbooks for friends and family, but none "published" nationally.
My favorite things to cook
Shrimp dishes, chicken dishes, fish dishes, and salads are my favorite things to cook. I gave up baking many years ago when sons left home. Before that I baked bread weekly along with anything else I could think of.
My favorite family cooking traditions
At Christmas my mother would make her White Fruitcake. This is NOT your traditional "door stop" fruitcake. It's mostly cake with various candied fruit included, along with good brandy. The tradition has gone down another generation now.
My cooking triumphs
I invited friends for dinner, giving them 4 menus from which to choose. They chose Rack of Lamb this time. I had never made it before. The table was set beautifully with a small personal menu for each place. I prayed the whole time it would turn out. It was more than a triumph! It was spectacular. The plates looked professional when served. Alas, I didn't take a photo.
My cooking tragedies
When we were first married I didn't know how to cook at all except the basics. My tragedy was cooking peas to mush for guests. My best friend will not let me forget it to this day!

Grilled Salmon I
Superb!!! I have several grilled salmon recipes, but this one has it all. It's as good as it's going to get. However, I do not use foil on the grill. I have 2 Weber charcoal grill, and cook over direct heat. If you want to "take it up a notch", soak some hickory chips in water for 30 minutes, and scatter them on the hot coals. Cover the grill, and as soon as you see some smoke put the salmon on the grill. You won't be sorry! If you have a gas grill, put the soaked chips in a foil package, poke holes in the bottom, and set the package over the spot where the gas ignites.
