My Smoothie Creation
About this Cook
Hello all. I like to make recipes more frugal and more flexible: I never follow a recipe to the T, but always adjust something (usually because I don’t have all the ingredients). I owe most of my cooking skills to my untrained father. He is the one who taught me how to use what I have creatively rather then ask him to buy something. My favorite ingredient to use is the potato. This is because it is frugal, healthy, and fun to use. I like making soups, breads, pasta dishes, casseroles, and sautéed dishes. I belong to a family of 12 (plus one on the way). I love it when the whole family gathers around the dinner table to eat and fellowship and read afterwards. By Gods grace I can eventually be like Him: I am not anywhere close right now, but I hope I'm learning. I like arithmetic, reading, history, science, bible, cooking, sewing, and gardening. I like long profiles, I just ran out of room.
My favorite things to cook
Anything creative and frugal. (or easy)
My favorite family cooking traditions
Making pizza from scratch! It is not a tradition, but I really enjoy it. We always have coffeecake on Christmas morning.
My cooking triumphs
Throwing a company meal together when Daddy thought we had nothing useful in the house!(which is quite an accomplishment because it was his teaching that made it possible).
My cooking tragedies
The garlic bread was charcoal, the noodles falling apart and the spaghetti sauce tasted like raw tomatoes, aanndd the salad was disgusting (fortunately my family can eat anything:))

Pikelets (Scottish Pancakes)
These were good, if you like sweet, eggy, and somewhat tasteless pancakes. The recipe is very nice and simple if you follow it. I didn't, I automatically started beating the eggs before looking at the directions, oops, they ended up lumpy. Anyway, the directions are good and I think cutting the sugar in half would improve them greatly. I give it 4 stars for a good recipe in theory, written well, accurate picture, good description, and potentially tasty results.

Meatball Mushroom Soup
This was great! I can't say that it will be great if you follow the recipe, because I didn't. I did the recipe times 4 with these changes: Instead of meatballs, One cubed, seasand, and cooked chicken breast. Instead of barley, rice, and elbows, one pound of elbows. Instead of Italian seasoning and mushrooms, lots of random seasonings. And I skipped the parmesan. We loved it, and I will definitely be making this again. I served it with tuna sandwiches.
