Have been cooking since the age of seven. My first dish was a "scratch" cake. Currently least favorite things to cook are desserts. Love to look up recipes on the Allrecipes as well as other sites but rarely follow a recipe as published, enjoy "tweaking" recipes in addition to my "originals", many of which have been passed down thru the generatioms in my family, often using the least expensive cuts of meat and a variety of leafy greens and beans.
My favorite things to cook
Love to cook in the slow cooker and enjoy casseroles as well as ethnic foods i.e.traditional Afro-American
dishes, Mexican,and Italian dishes.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Family traditions are almost any green leafy vegetables(collards, kale, turnip greens, spinach, cabbage) and most dried beans(lima beans, black eye peas, split peas, great northern beans) with a small amt. of meat or no meat for flavor. These dishes can be used as an entree with a side of home made baked rolls or corn bread. Pls. feel free to be lavish with the hot sauce. All three sons are excellent cooks and two of them are employed as cooks (one in L. A. and one in Va).
My cooking triumphs
"Anything" casseroles which are anything in the houe usally seasoned with onion and garlic or bell pepper to feed an unexpected drop in visit from the gang. Canned tuna and canned salmon have also been life savers. Red pepper flakes and hot are a staple in my kitchen.
My cooking tragedies
Trying to make any "fancy" baked dessert. Dressed up ice cream works well, thank you very much (lol).
