I am married with two small children. I consider baking and cooking to be a way I can bless my husband, kids and friends, so I'm always looking for great new recipes and to hone my cooking skills. I'm no Julia Childs, but I can hold my own! Food in our house is typically American, slightly heavy on the French foods. My girls are not terribly picky, and are required to taste all new things at least a couple times. My food challenge is adjusting our "old favorites" for food allergies and calorie count.
My favorite things to cook
Soups. Nearly everything I make is from a recipe, but when it comes to soups, it's not necessary, the food is truly my creation. They're warm and filling, comfort food. You can use whatever you have on hand for meals on the quick and cheap, or create something you have a craving for with so many options from soup bases to meats, vegetables, pastas, beans, chesses, spices...and of course, you can feed an army with just one pot!
My favorite family cooking traditions
Making (and of course eating) meat pies in the fall with the women in my mother's large, French family.
My cooking triumphs
Learning to bake just about anything that calls for eggs, without them- cakes, breads, cookies, muffins- for my youngest daughter with an egg allergy. Also, making chinese food that rivals take out!
My cooking tragedies
Eggless brownies continue to confound me.
