About this Cook
I work as an ophthalmic assistant fulltime and a mommy and wife all the time. I really like the work I do but I relish my time with my boys.
My favorite things to cook
Pumpkin rolls, chess bars, peaches and cream tart...anything sweet! Chicken and dumplings, BBQ pulled pork. I'm just getting into soups and crockery cooking.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Cooking is always a family event. My husband and I met in a restauraunt...he was a chef and I was waiting tables for extra money. He wooed me with orange chicken and jasmine rice ;) Now our 8 year old and 21 mo. old help prepare nearly every meal in some (usually big) way. It is such a great way to bond with them! And by the way, if you marry a chef, don't expect them to cook for you at home! Guess who cooks at our house!
My cooking triumphs
I have a board in our kitchen where I write things the boys do that make me proud. After a very good dinner of pulled pork and all the fixins, my eight year old wrote on the board, "Mom's meal was better than Moonlight*, Mcdonled, tacobell and minicheeseburgers!" TRIUMPH! *Moonlight is a local but world famous BBQ joint.
My cooking tragedies
Chicken and dumplings...they started off so bad, my husband would take them to work for lunch and dump them in the river. He later told me the fish wouldn't even eat them. But...I've come a long way...now they're one of my specialties.

Southern Ham and Brown Beans
My family loves this! Four stars rather than five only because I'm not a fan of pinto bean soups. I'll make this again, not a thing needs tweaking.

World's Best Lasagna
The salt completely overpowered all other flavors. Based on the other numerous positive reviews (and suggestions), I will make this again with less salt.

Ramen Coleslaw
So, so good! We have a local diner that serves this side, but I have to say, mine was even better! I took the recommendations of others and used rice vinegar. To save time, I used about 2/3 of a bag of slaw mix. Also, the browning time for the almonds and sesame seeds was a little long. I stirred them every two minutes and they were done within six minutes. My entire family (even my 1 1/2 year old) loved this.
