I am quasi-retired and live on a 26-acre hay-producing farm with my husband of 1.5 years (yes newlyweds!),one dog, three barn cats and one inside cat. We also have two head of cattle, a 20 yr old paint, four chickens and a rooster.
Farm living is in my blood, having spent many a summer at my grandparents' farm in Vermont. Especially in the big square kitchen! My grandmother was a wonderful cook and passed down that legacy of love to me. My two grown sons and youngest daughter like to cook as well.
My favorite things to cook
I like to bake as it feels more creative to me, especially shaping bread dough into twists and rounds such as stollen and bubble bread. I also like to make desserts, though I am terrible at frostings! Jello ideas are fun:)
My favorite family cooking traditions
Easter ham with a honey mustard glaze, served with artichokes; and my grandmother's huge Thanksgiving spreads that included pan-fried venison as well as turkey and five different kinds of fruit pies. For Christmas, a sweet bread shaped like a partridge w/sliced almonds for feathers.
My cooking triumphs
The golden partridge bread described above; mediterranean chicken for 20 ppl that I found on this site (a smash hit with kudos from a professional chef!)
My cooking tragedies
Have you ever burned Jello?? OK so I was in my 20s! ;)
