I have been roaming all over this web site since August 2009 and thought I should become a supporting member. Just looked like the thing to do. I have really enjoyed the recipes and reviews. I have found the reviews more than just a little helpful. And, now that we have found that my husband… MORE

About this Cook
I have a yen to be self sufficient or as close as I can. So, hubby and I have our own little farm in Oregon and we raise cattle, pigs, chickens and turkeys so far. We also have a dog, cat and donkey.
My favorite things to cook
I love to bake and try new things. I grow lots of stuff and am ready to begin having a year round garden in a greenhouse. Any meal is a pleasure especially if he likes it. I enjoy canning what I grow and catch (fish).
My favorite family cooking traditions
I have cows and milk so I have access to all the milk I can use. My grandmother used to make something we called Fried Cottage Cheese. It is a little sour and cooked very dry. It browns and takes a gallon of raw milk to make about 1/2 pound. I make Banana pudding in the extra large size for my husband as he eats it right out of the bowl. One bowl, one spoon, one man, and the dog. She will eat anything he does. I also like Cornbread dressing with chestnuts.
My cooking triumphs
I made Mozzerella cheese for the first time last month and it was so good my friend told me I should market it.Cheesecake is something I never thought I could master, but it isn't hard. Goose and duck are two things I never thought I could do, but they both passed his likes.
My cooking tragedies
I tried the fried Cottage Cheese again and it took forever to cook and almost burned. I think the milk wasn't soured enough.

Best Ever Jalapeno Poppers
I made these tonight and loved them except for one little thing. Next time I will cook them less time as the cheese was cooked out of them. I cooked these again for the second time and some I baked and some I fried. I liked the baked best even though they were a little tough.

Spicy Beanless Chili
I give this recipe a 100%. I was looking for a recipe I could can with everyone liking it and this one did the job. Both men liked it and one likes spicy and one doesn't so i t made a HIT. I increased the recipe several times and didn't have any tomato juice but added home canned tomatoes and it was very excellent, now I have my canning chili recipe. THANK YOU
