About this Cook
Have had the wonderful opportunity to live in overseas countries for the last 12 years and experienced different foods and types of cooking.
My favorite things to cook
I love to bake : my specialties being pastry and cookies. I also love to make meals for our friends with recipes from the countries we've lived in - Beef rouladdin from Germany, perogies and cabbage rolls from Russian (and Ukrainian and Polish) cooks. Still have to work on my Yorkshire pudding.
My favorite family cooking traditions
My daughters both like to bake - shortbread cookies from a recipe from a friend in Canada are a family favorite and have even impressed the Brits. We also use a chocolate chip cookie recipe that I found in a magazine 30 years ago. Everyone loves it.
My cooking triumphs
Learning how to make German dishes that even impress my step-mother who is a fantastic cook and taught me a lot. And who grew up near Germany so cooks many of the dishes from there herself.
My cooking tragedies
When I was about 14 and had started to really like baking I made a chocolate cake from scratch which fell in the middle. So I filled it with frosting and levelled it off. I LOVED it - who wouldn't love all that chocolate?

Cinnamon Rolls III
We're Canadians living in the Uk and sometimes miss food that we grew up with so to find this recipe was so nice!! There is a Cinnabon and a Cinnzeo here but not anywhere near us. I don't have a bread machine but made them in my Artisan mixer. The first time I made this I didn't adjust any amounts which you have to do here. (My recipes from Canada are from Alberta which is above sea level, here we are below) So, it didn't rise properly as I didn't use enough yeast. The second time they turned out fantastic - I put in 10 grams of yeast. I'm going to try 12 next time just to experiment. The cream cheese icing was just as good as Cinnzeo. Friends from here love them too!!
