Hey,
I'm Seraphine Benson, a beginner Chef from Paris, France.
My mother, a French/Vietnamese woman living in Florida, is a professional Chef along with her three brothers (my uncles). I learned everything from her!
I'm a pediatrician and graduated from Harvard seven years ago, and I love to paint and cuddle with my St. Bernard, Gus. I live with my (newly-wed!) husband,Stephen, and seven goldfish.
I LOVE baking! I don't know a lot of recipes, but the ones I have learned are AMAZING. My weaknesses are chocolate and frozen yogurt, which are always stocked in my fridge when I get a craving. Since my Father is from the South, I know a lot of rich, homestyle recipes!
I ALSO love white-water rafting, bungee jumping and sky-diving. I'm an extreme sports enthusiast, and so is Stephen!
My favorite things to cook
I like to cook a lot of rich, fatty stuff (a bad habit, I know.) Here's a few...
- Chocolate Cake. Store-bought frosting? Please.
- Baked Apples
- Pies!
- Acorn Squash (Glazed with brown sugar and cinnamon on the inside)
- Chicken Pot Pie. A lot of work, but soooo worth it!
- Homemade Candy. Delicious, and so easy!
My favorite family cooking traditions
Two words. Fried. Chicken! Again, I'm practiced in the ways of the southern (thanks to Dad). I make a MEAN fried chicken.
My cooking triumphs
- Apple Pie
- Peanut Candy
- Chocolate-Fudge Brownies
My cooking tragedies
I once tried baking a chocolate cake in the microwave, just to try it out. I was in college, and had learned that it actually worked. Well, when the five minutes was over and I tipped the spongy contents out of the bowl, the cake was overcooked and burnt on the outside, still soggy on the inside, and tasted like burnt, cocoa-covered toast! It tasted awful, and I vowed never to bake cake in anything but the oven.
