I am a journalist with a passion for social justice. My husband is Chinese American and also loves to cook; we're very interested in food. We argue a lot about getting a dishwasher. (Too many antique plates!) We raise, train and show American Foxhounds and Chesapeake Bay Retrievers. Cake. Ice cream. Sorbet. Southern food. Thai food. Soups. Seafood. Interesting things on the grill. I love to share photos of stuff we've made for dinner with friends on Facebook. My grandmothers were excellent cooks. My husband brings with him the long tradition of Chinese cooking. My mother never cared much about cooking, but my late stepfather was quite the gourmand. He could take a $40 piece of beef, fiddle with it all day long and render it almost inedible. Sometimes he had lucky accidents, though. Let's see, I won a gingerbread house contest, the only time I entered. People ask me to make cakes for them. No one has died yet at my table. :-) Um, the less said the better. I'm just happier that these are fewer and farther between as the years roll on.
