Mourning the loss of my father and trying to find other things to keep my attention. Currently obsessing over cooking.
My favorite things to cook
I love cooking anything someone requests or anything unusual. I loved cooking for my father, and when he had the whipple due to pancreatic cancer, he couldn't eat much. Still, he sent me to the store to make whatever he desired, and he was very thankful. He asked for german chocolate cake, his favorite, and it took a long time to make. He ate about a tablespoon becaue he was so sick, but he still loved it. Cancer took away everything he loved, his work, golf, traveling, but even through his illness he was still able to enjoy food.
My favorite family cooking traditions
My mom cooked big meals. I loved when my father grilled beef and chicken kabobs. Every once in a while we would go crabbing, and we would cook fresh crab. It was delicious.
My cooking triumphs
I remember when I was younger I told my mom I wanted to try to make some minestrone soup like the one a popular restaurant carries. I found ingredients around the house, and to her suprise it was amazing. I had a couple of other lucky triumphs at around 15. I became interested in cooking, and I am creative. It is a good mix.
My cooking tragedies
The first thing I cooked my boyfriend (now husband) was spaghetti. I boiled hard noodles, and added a can of tomatoe paste. I burnt his mom's birthday cake and cried. Then I used to cook us corn dogs. I always set the corn dog sticks on fire, and I would set the fire alarm off in our apartment. I tried to remember how Julia Roberts turned the alarm off in sleeping with the enemy, and so there I began hitting the alarm with a broom. Then I was at the neighbor's house asking for help. This was anytime I cooked corn dogs.
