I am a retired ex-pat Brit and have lived in Cyprus for eleven years. I have been widowed for five years after a wonderful marriage that lasted forty-three years. My mother lives with me and I have three children and six grandchildren who live in England. We have two dogs and two cats - all rescued from certain death!
My favorite things to cook
I prefer to cook main courses or savoury things. When I have to produce a pudding I usually opt for a Pavlova or a fruit pie!
My favorite family cooking traditions
My Scottish Grandma left me trying to reproduce her wonderful shortbread and glorious Scotch Broth. No contest; you win, Grandma - hands down! Her Yorkshire mother-in-law taught her to make a breathtaking Yorkshire pudding; everything Grandma cooked was touched by an angel!
My cooking triumphs
Mastering the local Cypriot Afelia (cubed pork, cooked with red wine, coriander seeds, black peppercorns, cinnamon stick, etc.) and one to two others that are close to the ones served at the local tavernas.
My cooking tragedies
Far, far too many to list! For pure drama, the casserole that came out of the cold oven exactly as it had gone in - - hardly surprising but very embarrassing! My guests dined on 'emergency' omelettes!
