Glazed Apple Cookies

Reviewed: Nov. 27, 2011
This recipe is definitely a keeper even with the two changes I made. I used one stick of sweet cream butter rather than the 1/2 c. shortening, and I used 1c whole wheat flour with 1c white flour. You talk about good! My husband fell in love wih them, and the group I'm making them for probably will do the same. Thank you, Sandy, for a great recipe!

Easy Honey Mustard Mozzarella Chicken

Reviewed: Nov. 6, 2011
This was a moist chicken, but other than that, we didn't care for it too much, and I can't point to exactly why! Rather a strange reaction to the recipe, I think. I might make it again with just the honey mustard mixture, use cornstarch to thichen that mixture up and serve with egg noodles and broccoli. Then maybe I'll sprikle a bit of the cneese and some real bacon bits over this just before it's served over the noodles. This is too good an idea to give up on it. Thank you for the recipe, Sarahbea.

Chicken Cacciatore

Reviewed: Aug. 4, 2011
My family enjoyed this very much. We used a bit of red wine for deglazing, and next time I might use less. It was too tomatoey for me, but I ate it anyway, it was so good. I served it with linguini, which my husband requested. He's not much of a rice person. Will definitely make this again, and add more chicken. We ran out too soon! Thanks for the submission.

Tuna Noodle Casserole II

Reviewed: Jul. 4, 2011
Made this one evening when I didn't have a lot of time, and not only was it easy, but it was also delicious! This was the first time I had used crushed potato chips as a topping, as I had always thought that particular topping would be too salty. It was salty, but not overpoweringly so. Next time I make this dish I may try crushed cornflakes with maybe a bit of garlic and onion powder, along with more of the paprika. There are several possibilities for toppings, including panko with melted butter or crushed crispy onions.

We didn't care for this at all and I'm not even sure why, because we like all the ingredients individually. I guess it was just the way everything tasted all together. Go figure. Thanx anyway.

Kidney Bean Salad

Reviewed: Jun. 28, 2011
I was the only one in my family who came close to liking this, and I think that's because I'm such a fan of kidney beans. Sorry it didn't work for us.

S.O.P.P.

Reviewed: Jun. 13, 2011
This dish is absolutely amazing. The second time I fixed it I couldn't remember the name, but everyone in the family knew what I meant: The PEPPER STUFF!! It is so easy and tasty. It just has a taste that makes my tongue giggle! Serve it with a lettuce and tomato salad and homemade french bread and a winner is had by all! Thanks so much for the submission.

Mrs. Sigg's Snickerdoodles

Reviewed: May 24, 2011
These were fantastic! They were easy to make, and disappeared just as easily. I made a batch yesterday and promised to make another batch today. That doesn't happen often, so I was surprised. Did use more sugar/cinnamon mixture than was called for, but that didn't hurt anyone's feelings. Thanks for a real keeper!

Slow Cooker Texas Pulled Pork

Reviewed: Apr. 28, 2011
This is absolutely my go-to recipe for pulled pork from now on. Scrumptious!!! DH agrees. Now we'll see how our guests react this evening. I cooked this yesteday afternoon and refrigerated it overnight. Of course I had to taste test it occasionally for tenderness and flavor and definitely was not disappointed. I'm going to heat it up, shred the meat and hope that time really flies until dinner-time! I would like to cook this once a week, but I'm afraid that would be overkill. I may cook seveal pork shoulders and freeze the shredded meat in muffin tins to have on hand for unexpected guests or occasions. Thanks for a great recipe.

Zucchini Herb Casserole

Reviewed: Apr. 28, 2011
Even after tripling seasonings, adding twice the onion (one large sweet onion) and three times the garlic, and using Italian-favored diced tomatoes rather than fresh, we still found this to be rather bland and had quite a bit left over, which is unusual in our family! DH and I discussed it and agreed to totally change the flavor of the leftovers with Rotel tomatoes and green chilies, about 1/2 teaspoon of cumin and 1 tablespoon of chili powder, with maybe a garnish of a bit of chili powder sprinkled over the cheddar cheese on top. I think I'll try adding about 1 to 1 1/2 cups of thawed whole kernel corn, also. This is definitely a work in progress for us!

Kielbasa and Cabbage

Reviewed: Oct. 24, 2010
I used smoked sausage because it's what I had. I also added frozen carrots and boiled some potatoes to go in this dish. I only added about 1/8 tsp. hot pepper because my mouth is extra sensitive to anything spicy, and even though my taste buds were crying "foul" as loud as ever, I just kept eating. This was SO good! My husband, son and friend kept chanting "Make it again!" We had french bread with this and it was a meal to brag about. I know I changed the recipe from the original, but I have to do what I can since I can hardly stand (literally) to cook. I love the process but my body doesn't. Therefore, sometimes I take a few liberties, but hopefully not too many times. Thanks for the fantastic submission.

Absolutely fantastic. I had a 2 lb roast and used the original amount of rub and followed the same cooking directions. My family and guest raved and my son took ALL the leftovers for lunch the next day. This is a DEFINITE keeper. Thanks for the submission.

Slow Cooker Sweet and Tangy Chicken

Reviewed: Mar. 5, 2010
My dh and I both really liked this. He put it together for us, put it into the crock pot, and I turned the crock pot on - to high, actually, because there was no time to cook it longer than about 4 1/2 hours. It was done beautifully! The chicken was fall-apart tender and we ate it over rice with just a dab of soy sauce, which bumped it up perfectly. The leftovers are being frozen and this dish is one I will recommend to friends. Thanks so much for a winner.

Slow Cooker Veggie-Beef Soup with Okra

Reviewed: Feb. 26, 2010
This soup was Great! I didn't drain the tomatoes and had to add 1 cup of beef broth in addition, hence the 4 stars. I did use 1 can of diced potatoes because I was afraid regular potatoes wouldn't have time to get done due to my time constraints. I had to turn my heat up to high for about 30 minutes because some of the veggies weren't done. I simply forgot the ketchup, but it was probably just as well, because the soup was plenty sweet enough without it. I'm going to make it again tomorrow, because I'm sick and just want soup to eat. This is so good that I just want to cook this recipe. Thanks KR. You done good!

Spiced Slow Cooker Applesauce

Reviewed: Feb. 2, 2010
This was excellent! I used Gala applees because I had them. I also used splenda instead of granulated sugar becaise pf doabetes. My husband found it and began eating it with rice and oatmeal for a couple or mornings, and then there was only a tiny bit left and I had to grab it if I wanted any. I'm going to buy a big bag of apples just to cook this when we shop tomorrow, and I'm going to try freezing it, if I can get enough to do that before DH and Son get their hands on it! 20 stars, if I could. Thanks bunches

Orange Slice Cake

Reviewed: Jan. 1, 2010
Wow! My husband wants this every year for the Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays! Thank goodness he can help me mix it when it gets real thick, because my hand strength won't get me through this one. Man, I love orange slices. I'll have to cut them smaller the next time, because it leaves too large a hole when I sneak them out of the cake right now. I soaked the cake overnight in 1 cup of OJ, but it still was too dry. I made a glaze out of OJ and powdered sugar, but I needed a sauce to spoon over the slices for more moisture when serving. I'll work on that for next time. Thanks for a really good recipe. With stuff like this around, being diabetic is a really big pain! I love orange slices a whole big bunch, if I didn't get that idea across before!

Terri's Chicken Carcass Stew

Reviewed: Dec. 5, 2009
My husband, who is not an avid soup fan, made this last night, and we both ate until we were almost ashamed. This soup is fantastic! Due to time constraints, he cooked it on the stove top, and began with two frozen chicken breasts which were cooked in water seasoned with salt, black pepper and garlic powder. When the chicken was done, he chopped/shredded it, removed the fat and began adding everything to the pan, including chicken broth. He didn't want to use the liquid the chicken was cooked in. When it came to chile powder, he grabbed the 1/2 tablespoon measure instead of the 1/2 teaspoon, and we debated, then went ahead and used the larger amount. That's the only ingredient we changed, and we just ooohed and aaahed because the soup was so good! Another new favorite to add to the soup section of our recipe file. Thank SO much for sharing this. I'll be sure to pass it on.

Baked Potato Soup

Reviewed: Dec. 5, 2009
My husband and I made this a few nights ago, doubled the recipe, and fed three families. The only bad part was we didn't have enough for us to have some a second afternoon! It was fantastic and has gone into the favorites file. Now you have to understand that my DH isn't a soup fan, but I figure he was extra hungry that day because he took the initiative in the cooking. Thrilled me! He used the potato masher to make the potato pieces smaller, and I thought it was a good idea. This is a great soup. Thanks for sharing.

Beer Lime Grilled Chicken

Reviewed: May 9, 2009
Made this last night in the oven with the broiler and it turned out just wonderful. After reading reviews, I marinated it 45 minutes in the fridge. It jumped to my second most favorite chicken recipe ever. (First is crunchy french-fried onion chicken.) This is a keeper and I'll ask hubby to cook it on the grill when it's not so windy!
