About this Cook
I have been married to a wonderful man for 47 years. Have 3 children, 6 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren. We have relatives living in Illinois, Indiana, Ohio, Tennessee and Georgia. We have traveled to many places and lived in Michigan, Montana, Alaska, Indiana and now in Georgia. We are both retired so we have plenty of time to do all the things that are of interest to us. We love playing board and card games, going to casino boats, playing bingo, fishing, camping and hiking and gardening together. We also love experimenting with foods and discovering new recipes.
My favorite things to cook
Comfort foods and desserts; also, Asian, southern,Italian.
My favorite family cooking traditions
BBQ's, grilled meats & veggies, baked main dishes, specialty soups and salads, desserts.
My cooking triumphs
Found a way to prepare fresh salmon fillets which keeps them moist and delicious; also prepared a complimentary sauce that is very low carb, low fat but very tasty. Designed a special BBQ sauce that everyone raves about; also, a special very wholesome soup. Invented a way to use zucchini instead of pasta in several Italian style dishes...yum!
My cooking tragedies
Trying to use fondant for the first time when making a special birthday cake. The idea was to make a cargo van setting on top of an 8x13 inch rectangular cake. I made the windows from a sugar recipe and they were perfect; I crumb coated the van with buttercream icing, put the "windows" in place, colored and rolled out the fondant and draped it over the van. Disaster!! The fondant made the windows slide down to the bottom and simply would not stay in place. Nothing I tried helped so I finally ripped of the fondant, replaced the windows and buttercreamed the whole thing. I even made red tail lights and white head lights. The doors, grills and tires were outlined in black so everything did look all right. The client was very pleased, so I just kept quite about the fondant fiasco. Now I need to experiment with fondant so I can use it to enhance my cakes and confections.
