Slow Cooked Corned Beef for Sandwiches

Reviewed: Aug. 30, 2009
I never made or I guess really ate corned beef before. I didn't realize that I'm really not a fan of it. This recipe is a great recipe and my family really liked it. The only way I liked it was when I added coleslaw to the sandwich (made restaurant style coleslaw from this site, it was perfect). Otherwise I had to pass. Because it was pretty easy and everyone else thought it was great, I am giving it 5 stars. I wish I could have enjoyed it as much as everyone else though but thats my own fault, darn my taste buds. :(

Apple Pie by Grandma Ople

Reviewed: Aug. 30, 2009
I wish I could have met Grandma Ople! My first attempt at making apple pie, and oh my gosh... DELICIOUS! My daughter and I made this pie together. I know we made a couple of small errors but even through that, this pie was sooo good! We made exactly as posted and I wouldn't change a thing. The flavor was perfect! I know we will be making this pie again and very soon too!

Restaurant-Style Coleslaw I

Reviewed: Aug. 30, 2009
This is the perfect coleslaw recipe! I've never been a fan of coleslaw, not even from restaurants. We made corned beef brisket for sandwiches this weekend and had friends and family over. It was also my first time making corned beef and the only way I liked it was with this coleslaw! The only thing I did wrong was not double or triple this wonderful recipe. Everybody loved it and wanted more. I also considered shredding my own cabbage and carrots b/c I hate bagged salad, it seems to have a strange taste. But, I was running short on time and just grabbed the coleslaw mix and you couldn't even tell. I am making this again tonight and can't wait for the next get together. Fast, convenient and taste fantastic!

Whole Grain Healthy Banana Bread

Reviewed: Aug. 23, 2009
To my surprise, my family really enjoyed this banana bread! I used brown sugar instead of splenda. I used less wheat flour and added oatmeal, I also used yogurt instead of sour cream. I made two batches and 1 batch I made mini muffins, the 2nd batch I made the regular loaf. The muffins were great to eat on the go and just a quick go to snack. We will be using this recipe again for sure!

Slow Cooker Taco Soup

Reviewed: Aug. 22, 2009
Absolutely delicious! Family, company and the kids loved this dish. Took a few suggestions from other reviews. No water just extra tomato sauce, diced tomatoes with chilies instead of a can of each. Added taco seasoning, onions & ranch to meat as I cooked it. So good and so very convenient. Was able to toss it together @ 8am & have a stress free dinner that evening.

Golden Rum Cake

Reviewed: Aug. 21, 2009
My husband & aunt totally loved this cake! I baked the cake the day before we served it and it was still pretty strong. Still loved it though! I used coconut milk in place of water in both the cake and the glaze. I used Myers rum for the cake and vanilla rum for the glaze. I also tried the glazing technique that everybody comments on and that worked really well. Actually, after I reinserted the cake and poured the last 1/2 of glaze on, I let it cool for a couple of hours and then wrapped the whole pan in plastic wrap and put it in the fridge. Took it out an hour or two before we served it the next day. Aunt and husband have requested for their b-days! Many thanks for the fab recipe!!!

Cake with Buttercream Decorating Frosting

Reviewed: Aug. 21, 2009
This frosting is a dream to work with! I've only taste tested, haven't tried the finished product yet but, it did taste really good from what I could tell. I'll definitely know more tonight when we try the cake. I loved that it made a lot of icing. I added an extra 1/2 tablespoon of vanilla and I didn't use near as much sugar as called for. I added extra shortening as needed. The cake turned out beautiful! ***UPDATE*** I tried the frosting tonight and really loved it. It wasn't overly sweet like most frostings and it just had a great flavor. My son has a b-day coming up and we will definitely use this for his Spongebob cake!

Kettle Corn

Reviewed: Aug. 19, 2009
The fam and I love this popcorn, so much so that we made several batches in one day! It is fun and easy to make, we did it over the stove with a large saucepan. Took others advise with the 3 kernal test and had no problems. We shouldn't love something so much but, we've made this everyday for the last week. I don't know if its b/c its so good or just really fun to make. Not to mention once it starts popping, it starts drawing a crowd! We have experienced some carmelization but, that may or may not be normal. Nobody has complained and a couple of the kids fight for the carmelized pieces. Great recipe!

Mom's Legendary Stuffed Hamburgers

Reviewed: Aug. 10, 2009
Yum! These were a lot of fun and a big hit w/the fam. I actually got the recipe off of the food network and looked it up on here and it was exactly the same. You can add whatever you want to the stuffing. We just did bacon, cheddar cheese and onions. Some people mentioned that they will just add stuffing to the burger after its been cooked next time b/c it was too much work to stuff. Whats the fun in that though???

The Best Banana Bread

Reviewed: Jul. 27, 2009
For a quick, no-fuss banana bread recipe, this one is perfect! I used real butter, 1/2 white, 1/2 brown sugar, 1 tsp of vanilla and a little cinnamon. I baked one loaf and we ate it right out of the oven. I wish I would have added a little more cinnamon but my die-hard banana bread lovin son said it was perfect. I baked it for 1 hour exactly and for me, the time was right on.

Eggplant Croquettes

Reviewed: Jul. 26, 2009
Sooo good....I made them exactly as written, never had the chance to look at any reviews and they turned out really good! My whole family loved them, even the picky kiddos. I had two medium eggplants and they made about ten croquettes. We will be making these again and often! Thanks for a great recipe!

Easy OREO Truffles

Reviewed: Jul. 26, 2009
These are really easy, fun to make and absolutely delicious. We didn't make them for any occasion, just messing around on a Sat. I don't have a food processor but I do have a 13yr old son who was more than happy to crush the cookies in a ziploc bag & that method worked really well. I also used the Baker's baking chocolate squares for dipping b/c thats what I had on hand. I melted a box w/a little shorting and it worked just fine. I used a melon baller for the scooping and shaping which was really easy. Some people mentioned that they fell apart easy but, I never had that problem. I also didn't refrigerate before I dipped, the chocolate didn't harden until I sat them in the freezer when I was all finished. It only took about 15 min. until they were ready. I can't wait to make these for a special occasion and decorate them really pretty. I took a pic of them but didn't dress them up which they looked fine but there is a lot of potential there. Thanks for this great recipe!

Aunt Betty's Banana Pudding

Reviewed: Jul. 25, 2009
Super yummy! I even forgot the sour cream, didn't realize it until the next day when I saw the sour cream in the fridge. I also used about 3/4 of the condensed milk and 1 box of french vanilla and 1 box of just vanilla pudding. My family said do away with our traditional banana pudding b/c this is by far the best! Next time maybe I'll remember the sour cream, lol!

Sugar Coated Pecans

These are so delicious! I've never met anyone who didn't like them. I totally make a pig out of myself when we make them. I use a vanilla/water ratio instead of just water as other reviews suggested but other than that I make them as is. Thanks for sharing this wonderful recipe!

Coffee Chocolate Chip Cookies

Reviewed: Jul. 23, 2009
Heavenly! I used Starbucks espresso powder instead of coffe, I also doubled the vanilla. Other than that I followed the recipe exactly. I froze the cookies in a ziplock bag and remembered them just in time for a vacation trip. My whole family loved the cookies and I really just made them for my husband and older son who enjoys coffee. I never dreamt that all the kiddos would love them too! The fam said this will now be a vacation tradition. Thanks for such a wonderful cookie recipe!

Stephen's Chocolate Chip Cookies

Reviewed: Jul. 23, 2009
So, half my family likes nutes & the other half doesn't. I don't know what posessed me to make these one day but, I did and the whole family ate and loved these cookies. I didn't have the white chocolate chips but, I made everything else as written and we will make these often. We still love our favorite recipe but, this one has quickly risen above all others and some of the family now says this is their favorite. Thank you!

Pizza Casserole

Great recipe! I used the Easy Pizza Sauce recipe from this site, I didn't have egg noodles so I used rotini and all I had was sliced pepperoni, and colby jack cheddar cheese blend. We all thought this recipe was fantastic! My family asked me to add this to the weekly recipe list. Thank you Melissa for a family fun and friendly dish!

Fried Chicken with Creamy Gravy

Reviewed: Jul. 23, 2009
Holy cow, this was good! My husband made this for dinner one night and it IS the best fried chicken I've ever had. I would never confess this to mom & dad but this recipe is amazing! B/c my husband made this and had it on the table when I got home from work, I don't know if he made any changes or added anything. I would think he made it just as is but I have to say thank you so much for sharing this recipe, we love it!

Buttery Soft Pretzels

Reviewed: Jul. 23, 2009
Oh my gosh, these were so much fun to make and really good! My 11yr old and I had a blast. Rolling the dough out to make the pretzel shape was a little hard for us but it had my daughter and me cracking up at the shapes we created. Just the memories alone were great! I used the parchment paper as instructed but, I wont next time b/c it didn't just peel off. I've never seen parchment paper cook on like that before and we use it w/almost all of our baking. Next time we will spray a baking sheet with Pam. Aside from that, these were great and we will make them again!
