My Favorite Meal, the Nathans Slaw Dog!!
About this Cook
US Navy Culinary Specialist 8 years, love to cook at work, I dont do that too much anymore, but really at home, meals taste better for four rather than 4000, you can put love into home cooked meals.
My favorite things to cook
Comfort foods that my family loves like macaroni and cheese, chilli, lasagna, spaghetti, ham, roast, fried chicken, mashed potatoes and gravy..you know not so healthy. Being in the military I try to balance healthy meals with the foods my family loves ao I stick these foods in mostly on the weekends and try to bake and grill during the week.My family loves roasted chicken so I can get away with that and stay on the healthy track.
My favorite family cooking traditions
We are building that now, I keep my kids in the kitchen with me and my son (8) wants to be a chef already, so far they love to make desserts.
My cooking triumphs
Moving to the south and mastering the southern foods my husband loves, my best.. dressing, the real kind made with cornbread and chicken, it came out perfect I lied and said I made it before, but once eveyone ate it and loved it I told them it was my first time. It came out perfect!
My cooking tragedies
Too many too count, baking is not my strength in the kitchen.

Grandma Ople's Apple Pie
Wonderful! I making this now once again for a 4th BBQ. I like sweet pie so I toss the apples in cinnamon, sugar and nutmeg before i fill my crusts. I have tried it without and it's still wonderful. I sometimes make the sauce for my kids to dip fruit in, my daughter loves to eat the cinnamon sugar apples with the sauce as well as bananas. The sauce is great to cook bananas in to top pancakes or waffles.

Roasted Garlic Cauliflower
I have tried this quite a few times, i have found what works for me. I keep it covered the entire time add a little more garlic (I love garlic) and salt and pepper. I add the cheese and broil it until the cheese browns. My son loves it and will eat the whole pan all by himself.

Garlic Red Potatoes
These are very good, i omitted the lemon juice and upped the garlic and added a little red pepper for a little kick, but they were great, i even ate them for breakfast with my omelet.
