Cooking for me is a type of therapy. The creative nature of cooking and the pleasure of seeing others enjoy something I've made gives me a very real sense of serenity and satisfaction.
My favorite things to cook
Anything that makes people happy and pleasantly full. I am very good at pies and soups.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Nothing terribly fancy, just basic PA dutch. Cookies at Christmas, Maryland crab cakes and soup, pies, etc, I was lucky enough to come from an old fashioned scratch cooking family tradition.
My cooking triumphs
I can cook almost ANYTHING over a campfire. (this is triumph enough!)
My cooking tragedies
One of the worst losses I ever suffered was the loss of ALL my cookbooks, recipe files, all the family recipes, AND all my kitchen equiptment. Starting over from "scratch" is not easy (or cheap). Allrecipes has been a great seed sorce to "rebuild" the family recipes and is a source of inspiration for new traditions.
