About this Cook
I love food! Both of my parents were OUTSTANDING cooks - my mother by profession, my father because, growing up without a mother, his father taught him and my uncles how to cook. One of my greatest regrets is not having chronicled more of my mother's most wonderful recipes before she died. I do have many, however; and it is thrilling to re-create some of her most wonderful meals!
My favorite things to cook
I love traditional cooking, the food I was brought up eating. Both of my parents were from the south and that is my most favorite way of cooking. Perfect scrambled eggs, (not too hard, but fluffy and rich!), a perfectly seasoned potatoe salad, or a succulent medium rare rib roast are just a few of my most favorite foods to prepare!

My cooking triumphs
To re-create a recipe that my mother often fixed, with the identical flavors and seaons is always a triumph for me and a way to honor her memory. The first time a prepared her infamous stuffed veal breast I was overcome! My father was famous for his breakfasts - no one, not even my mother, could rival his pancakes or waffles. That was always one of my favorite things and I never tired as a child watching him make breakfast! I think of him lovingly whenever I make pancakes or waffles that duplicate the richness of his.
My cooking tragedies
IF I COULD ONLY MAKE A PIE CRUST LIKE MY MOM'S! She tried to teach me often, remarking that "it is all in the feel of the dough", but I never mastered it. Her pies were renowned: sweet potato and pumkin for the holidays, peach, apple black raspberry, and blueberry were just some of my favorites. I have yet to try her strawberry shortcake - a coup d'etat in the world of baking.
