About this Cook
My favorite things to cook
I love anything that I can throw in the slow cooker, as I don't have to worry about making dinner when I get home from work. I also love to bake, especially cookies.
My favorite family cooking traditions
My father's side of the family is Polish, and making pierogis and cabbage rolls is in my blood. Also anything with sauerkraut gets two thumbs up from me. My grandmother also make delicious cookies and pastries, and my love of baking comes from her.
My cooking tragedies
When I was in college, my roommates and I were having a guest over that one roommate was trying to woo. My best friend and I decided, using very limited kitchen supplies, to make a giant cookie cake for our guest. In our silliness, we somehow thought it a good idea to bake said cookie cake on a stone pizza round. Needless to say, the molten cookie goo spilled all over the oven and we ended up with just mounds of cookie goo that refused to harden. It was still delicious, though the oven smelled like brown sugar and chocolate chips every time we cooked anything from then on.

Round Steak Sauerbraten
Quite good, but the meat was not as tender as it would have been had it marinated properly. I made it once and haven't made it since, so it didn't make much of in impression on me.

Bacon and Macaroni Salad
I made this salad as a main course for dinner with a few chicken strips served over lettuce. It was PERFECT. My family said it's the best pasta salad they've ever had, and it was easy to make to boot. Since it was my main course, I used big noodles (ziti) instead of the elbows. Also just a few changes due to personal preference: 86'd the olives and tomatoes, added one medium chopped onion. No sour cream, since I didn't have any in the house, so I used some extra mayo and some ranch to make up for it. Also added some dill, because I love dill. It makes a TON, but it's so good we will surely have it finished off by the end of the week!

Chocolate Covered Cherry Cookies II
Delicious! Easy to make, too. Took barely 30 minutes to do everything from mixing the batter to making the frosting to baking. The only change I did was adding less cherry juice to the frosting, after about two teaspoons the frosting seemed quite thin and I didn't want ti to run off the cookies. I also made my cookies a bit large, they ended up about 2" in diameter, because I wanted to bake them all at once and not have to do batches. Came out to 18 cookies total at the size I made them. I will definitely make these again, they were winners.
