Pecan Sweet Potato Casserole

Reviewed: Nov. 27, 2009
simply amazing! I made this for our Thanksgiving feast and absolutely LOVED it! I plan on making this every Thanksgiving from here on out and a few times a year as well! The recipe is easy to follow and is not too sweet. I HATE canned sweet potoatoes/yams with marshmallows! This casserole is PERFECT!

World's Best Lasagna

Reviewed: Nov. 9, 2009
This was extremely good! I have been looking for a great lasagna recipe for years since I lost mine! This was simple to make and the ingredents were not difficult to find. I used Johnsonville Hot Italian sausage (the best sausage EVER!), low fat cottage cheese in place of the ricotta and for time sake, only simmered the meat sauce on the stove for 30 minutes. The lasagna still tasted great! The only change I would make would be to use ony half of the amount of salt. I thought 1 tablespoon of salt sounded like a bit much, but I wanted to follow the recipe exactly before making any changes. I might add some chopped spinach to the egg/cheese blend next tome to add some veggies. Overall, AWESOME recipe! This is now my go to lasagna recipe!

Baby Carrots And Brussels Sprouts Glazed With Brown Sugar and Pepper

Reviewed: Nov. 9, 2009
I was looking for something different to do with common veggies that my family would like. This recipe is easy and tastes very good. The fam is not a huge fan of brussels sprouts, but I really like them and green beans and broccoli are getting so repetitive. I will put this in my regular rotation since I didn't hear any major complaints from the teenagers and they both did eat them.

Taco Seasoning I

Reviewed: Nov. 1, 2009
This was very good, but tasted like it was missing something. The spice was a bit hot. It's nice to have this on hand for the last minute dinners when you don't have the taco seasoning on hand. Most ingredients are in a cooks spice rack, and the recipe is easy to put together and make extra to keep on hand.

Apple Crisp IV

Reviewed: Oct. 25, 2009
I made this this weekend for my in laws while I was visiting them and got rave reviews! Everyone rated it 5 stars! It's really easy to make and I used the apples off my mother in law's tree, and served it with vanilla ice cream on top. Yummy! My brother in law said he would have rated it 6 stars if it had one more scoop of ice cream on it!

Apple Cake I

Reviewed: Oct. 15, 2009
This cake does not need frosting! It's a very good autumn dessert that is easy to make and tastes wonderful. I made this tonight for my bible study group and got rave reviews from all! I replaced all of the oil with applesauce and added a pinch of nutmeg, 1 extra tsp of cinnamon and 1 tsp of ground ginger as suggested by other reviewers. This was wonderful and moist! I will make this again for sure, thanks Judy!

Beef Bourguignon II

Reviewed: Oct. 14, 2009
I made this tonight and got only so so reviews from my family. The one thing that they ALL complained about was the pearl onions! I followed the recipe very closely, only using fresh sauteed mushrooms in place of the canned ones, and cutting the red wine down to 1 cup with 1 cup of beef stock as suggested by another reviewer. My husband rated this only 2.5 stars, but I thought it was really good, so I am giving it 4. Perhaps next time I will used chopped onions in place of the whole pearl onions. This did make my house smell wonderful while it was in the oven! I will make this again, adjusting the ingredients to my family's liking.

Parmesan Garlic Bread

Reviewed: Oct. 14, 2009
This was really good! I was looking for a last minute parmesan garlic toast/bread and this recipe fit the bill. I used fresh minced garlic instead of garlic salt, but still used the garlic powder as another reviewer suggested. I used a generous amount of grated parmesan cheese as well. I topped each slice with shredded parmesan cheese to get even more cheesy goodness.

Chicken Pot Pie IX

Reviewed: Oct. 13, 2009
Five star recipe for sure! Very easy and tasty! I have been looking for a chicken pot pie recipe that didn't use canned cream of chicken soup. This recipe was simple to follow and called for ingredients most cooks have on hand. I used refrigerated ready made pie crusts and used 4 individual ramekins with a top and bottom crust. I baked the bottom crust for 5-10 minutes before filling and putting top crust on. Very delicious, thank you Robbie!

Baked Swiss Steak

Reviewed: Oct. 7, 2009
This was very good. I make Swiss steak all the time and use my electric skillet. It never seems to have enough liquid and the meat usually ends up dry. That's why I was interested in trying this. It came out very good, but perhaps left it in a little too long. I forgot to watch the clock and it cooked an hour and 45 mins, and was a little dry. My fault, but I will make this again and see if decreasing the cooking time makes a difference. I served this over plain white rice with green beans.

Italian Seasoned Chicken and Fettuccine

Reviewed: Oct. 7, 2009
this recipe was great! I doubled the marinade because I was short on time and was worried that it wouldn't have enough flavor, boy was I wrong! This made the chicken so tender and juicy! I cooked the breasts whole, then cut them into bite sized pieces and let them sit in the baking dish in the drippings while the pasta was cooking to give them even more flavor. I used bow tie pasta with melted butter, garlic powder and grated parmesan cheese and then tossed the chicken pieces in to make a one dish meal. everyone loved this! In fact this simple marinade gave the chicken so much flavor, that I am using it again today to cook some chicken ahead and freeze to have on hand for a quick meal. Thanks this recipe is wonderful!

Zucchini Brownies

These were just ok. Strange texture from the zucchini. I will say that the zucchini made the brownies really moist, which was nice. Don't think I will make again.

Roasted Garlic Scalloped Potatoes

Reviewed: Oct. 5, 2009
The faimily and I liked this, however, I couldn't find the garlic potato soup called for in the recipe, so I used cream of mushroom with roasted garlic instead. Overall, it was ok, not sure if I'd make it again.

Great Pumpkin Dessert

Reviewed: Oct. 5, 2009
Very good pumpkin dessert! We all really enjoyed this. I have made something similar to this in the past, and am glad to have this recipe. I followed the recipe to a T. Next time I make this though, I will hold off putting the nuts on top until halfway through the baking as some of the nuts(especially in the corners) were a little too crunchy and brown or burnt. Thanks for this great recipe!

Wild Rice Casserole II

Reviewed: Oct. 5, 2009
This was pretty good. I think if I make this again, I will reduce the amount of butter, as it did seem a bit greasy to me. The only thing that I did differently was to add about a 1/4 cup of white rice to the wild rice 30 minutes into the baking process. Otherwise, it was worth a 4 star rating.

wow! really, really good! My husband and I really liked this. The only thing I did different was use beef broth instead of chicken,as another reviewer suggested. I didn't have any chicken broth on hand any way. Makes a nice soup with simple ingredients most cooks have on hand. I will make this again for sure! Thanks

Mushroom Orzo

Awesome! My whole family and I loved this! Such a change of pace from my usual plain white rice or rice-a-roniside dish. Only thing I substituted was the onions. Used chopped yellow onion instead of pearl,(I didn't have any on hand)This one's a keeper, thanks!

Blueberry Zucchini Bread

Reviewed: Sep. 4, 2009
I had a bunch of blueberries that I bought on sale...so I made this for our bible study group ( I made sure that I tasted it before I unveiled it, just to be on the safe side!). Everyone was skeptical at first after all, the combination does sound a bit strange...but after tasting it everyone raved about it and a few people asked me to bring the recipe for them next week. This recipe made three regular sized loaves(I made them in the throw away aluminum pans). This one's a keeper, thanks!
