About this Cook
My mother never let me near the kitchen, so I am basically self-taught. The easiest thing for me is to find recipes off of the net. I tend to only use "Taste of Home" or "Simple and Delicious" for cookbooks. I love to cook- it is my therapy at the end of a stressful day.
My favorite things to cook
My favorite things are dessert. I love to use my Kitchen-Aid mixer (the best invention EVER) and my silicon bakeware and make tons of cookies, muffins, and brownies for family get-togethers.
My favorite family cooking traditions
My mother's macaroni and cheese (delicious!), my grandmother's gumbo (she unfortunately took the recipe with her when she passed away last year- so it has not been replicated since), my mother's italian cookies (wedding balls, sesame seed cookies, fig cookies) and my dad's fried turkey (YUM!!)
My cooking triumphs
Really anything...the fact that I am cooking at all is a triumph since I have had to teach myself everything.
My cooking tragedies
Many...I tried this cornbread-encrusted chicken the other day...completely bland and tasteless. I should have listened to my gut and added garlic powder to the batter...but I didn't. YUCK! I did take-out instead.

Cocoa Chocolate Chip Cookies
Delicious!! I had to cook these for about 10 minutes longer than the directions stated because I own a conventional oven and I bake on silicone. However, I made 2 trays of these for a family gathering and they could not stop eating them!! I had some dough left and they made me bake those too to take them home. Excellent!!

Roast Pork with Maple and Mustard Glaze
This was some slow-cooking deliciousness. I have a roasting pan, but I was too lazy to get it out last night. So, I set it in the slow-cooker on high and let it go. After I browned the meat, it developed a beautiful crust and was absolutely delicious. The menfolk were mighty impressed!

Sweet Corn Cakes
Delicious!! It almost turns the corn into a custard. We both loved it, and we changed not a thing...except that I made it in a round pan. Regardless- you can eat it with a spoon. It's a nice, quick side that you can make.
