This is indeed a very simple, straightforward recipe. I've had nothing but success with it. One enhancement I do is add about a quarter teaspon of almond extract, along with the vanilla, to the sugar, butter and eggs. Plain, old-fashioned sugar cookies like these have always been among my favorite cookies.

Amazin' Raisin Cake

Excellent cake that's a hit with family and friends. I have a buddy who bakes cakes as a side job, and he absolutely loved it. My amendments to the recipie is replacing the milk with apple juice and adding two teaspons of vanilla extract. This would also make a great carrot cake.

Chocolate Ganache

Don't tell anyone how easy it is to make ganache! Just kidding. This one's a winner! I plan to use it as a filling for my strawberry red velvet trifle. I'll let everyone know how it turns out.

Very Chocolate Brownies

This recipe is excellent on its own or with enhancements. My enchancements are coffee in place of the water, and chopped walnuts. My mother loved these. And I agree; these brownies must be allowed to cool and set before cutting, or the result will be broken, fragmented brownies. The coffee enhances the flavor tremendously. And for those who like walnuts, they add a wonderful, old-fashioned aspect to the recipe. Be sure to use good quality chocolate chips. I use Ghirardelli or organic. It's more expensive, but worth it.

Butterscotch Bread Pudding

A good way to balance the sweetness of this recipie is to top with a unsweetened or lightly sweetened whipped cream. For a fruity option, use a can of drained fruit cocktail in place of the butterscotch chips.
