About this Cook
Bachelor cooking for himself for the first time. Unexpectedly, I'm quite enjoying the challenge and excitement of cooking for myself, and on occasion, friends.
My favorite things to cook
I have to say I'm a meat lover. However, I do enjoy fresh vegetables, and finding inventive ways to integrate them into my meals one of my greatest challenges.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Coming from a large family, food was always in great quantity, and was commonly a clever comination of basic staples. I tend to cook this way myself, with a good deal of rice, beans, ground beef, cheese, and raw veggies.
My cooking triumphs
Sweet, sour, and sticky chicken as found on this site. Got rave reviews from friends I had over for dinner (may have been just partially attributable to the case of wine consumed simultaneously :)
My cooking tragedies
Too many to relate :-) Mostly arising from silly misconceptions, ie that you can make grilled cheese sandwiches in the oven :-)

Best Ever Muffins
Good basic muffin recipe. Floowed the advice of other reviewers and preheated the oven to 425, then lowered to 400 when I put the batter in. I added two mooshed bananas and 1 tsp of rum extract. Turned out fluffy if slightly bland and not as moist as I like my muffins.

Vegan Chocolate Cake
Gave this five stars for its simplicity and downright goodness! I followed the recipe exactly, but with a smidgen more cocoa, and used the excellent icing provided in KAD's review. Was eaten the next day to rave reviews, most couldn't believe it was vegan! The only thing I'll do different next time is make 2!

Crepes
Fantastic! I made this per the instructions (but doubled it), but added 2 tsp of vanilla extract and a dash of nutmeg as suggested by a previous reviewer. They browned well and were moist and delicious! I'm a newbie cook and had no problems making these whatsoever.
