San Francisco Sourdough Bread

Reviewed: Oct. 22, 2009
I have been searching for a great sourdough recipe and finally found it! I made it in my mixer, adding ingredients as listed, then let it mix/knead for a few minutes. I made one loaf with the onions, and one without; both were great. I will be making this bread at least once a week, thanks for sharing!

Beets in Orange Sauce

Reviewed: Oct. 12, 2009
I love beets with just a bit of salt and pepper, so I was hesitant to try this recipe. But my family prefers veggies a bit more jazzed up. This was too sweet for us, but the flavour was GREAT! This will likely become my standard beet recipe, but with 1/2 the sugar. I might add a pinch of ginger next time.

Amy's Spicy Beans and Rice

Reviewed: Sep. 23, 2009
I'm very disappointed with this dish. I would not call it Spicy, in fact we found it quite bland. I added extra onions and some garlic and it was still bland! Had great texture, and so much potential. I'll make this again, but with more tweeks.

all I can say "YUMMY". I'm making stock from leftovers right now, and I'm sure that will be yummy too.

Eggplant Parmesan II

Reviewed: Nov. 22, 2008
I liked this dish, but my family did not. With traditional pan fried eggplant the eggplant flavour is quite hidden, with this version there is no fat to hide the taste. Personally I think this is a good thing, but I'm the only one in my family who feels that way.

Thai Peanut Butter Sauce

Reviewed: Sep. 25, 2008
Yum! My young children loved it too, but I did decrease the cayenne pepper to 1/8th tsp. Personally I think it would have been great with more heat, but you can always add more at the table. I used this sauce on soba noodles and fish. Yummy meal!

Zesty Slow Cooker Chicken Barbecue

Reviewed: Jun. 18, 2008
This was a bit too sweet for my taste but my family loved it. It's a nice easy to prepare meal that I'll be making again. Instead of chicken breasts I used a whole chicken cut into sections, then pulled the skin off. I would have preferred it with boneless meat so next time I'll use a combo of boneless thighs and breasts.

Classic Spanish Sangria

I've made this a number of times and everyone just loves it. I usually add other fruits like apples, plums, and pears. The fruit has quite a kick after it soaks up the alcohol!

Gazpacho

Reviewed: Jun. 21, 2007
This was a nice simple recipe. I pureed 2 cups of tomato in place of tomato juice - just because I did not have the juice on hand. I also skipped the tarragon as hubby does not care the flavor. My children did not like it, but that is to be expected when trying chilled soup for the first time. I'm sure after a few exposures they will get over that *smile*. I garnished with fresh parsley and basil.

Homemade Black Bean Veggie Burgers

Reviewed: Feb. 23, 2007
I wanted my children to try this so I used mild green chilis (1/2 of a 4oz can) instead of the hot sauce. I think it would have been great with the hot sauce. I also used 1/4 cup Egg Beaters instead of an egg. I LOVED THIS RECIPE! I will be making this regularly!

This is a great recipe that can be easily customized. My family loves lots of garlic and onion, but not too much sauce. Great base recipe.

Creamy Artichoke Pasta

Reviewed: Nov. 20, 2006
This was tasty, but I added a lot to it. I added 1/2 lb of shrimp, and about 1/3 lb of mixed mushrooms when I added the artichokes. I almost think I should have added a second jar of artichokes too. I also added 1/2 lb sugar snap peas to the pasta pot in the last minute or two of cooking. I don't think there would have been enough bulk without the extras. I used wheat Penne, non fat cottage cheese, and non fat sour cream. Served with a salad and homemade breadsticks...wonderful meal!

Baked Spaghetti Squash with Beef and Veggies

Reviewed: Oct. 19, 2006
I changed a couple of things just because that's what I had on hand. I used italian sauage instead of ground beef, and fresh herb replaced dried. I thought it had too much cheese. I would make this again but with less cheese.

Stir Fried Kale

Reviewed: Oct. 19, 2006
I was shocked at how good this is! Like other recommended I sauted the garlic and onion, then added the kale cooking until is wilted and got shiny. Then sprinkled about 3-4 Tbsp Italian breadcrumbs over it, stirring to mix. I thought this would be good with bacon bits or ham chunks. This will definately become my standard way of cooking kale.

Black Bean Salad

Reviewed: Oct. 11, 2006
My children (who will eat just about anything) did not care for this. They did not like the sharpness of the lime juice. I loved it. We had it as a salad the first day. The second day I had it in a wrap with some lettuce. The third day I added some chopped chicken and rice and served it warm. One recipe, so many ways to serve it!

Sloppy Joes II

Reviewed: Oct. 11, 2006
I doubled the sauce part of the recipe and added a shredded carrot with the onion. My family loved it and asked me to make it more often. personally, I thought it was way too sweet...but I am not a fan of Sloppy Joes. I'll probably make it in bulk and freeze it in single serving sizes.

Merlot-Peppercorn Steak Sauce

This sauce was pretty good. I will make this again but with some changes. More red wine, and less worchestershire sauce. I added extra garlic, and used olive oil instead of butter.
