Glazed Carrots

Reviewed: Nov. 26, 2009
surprisingly yummy!! I never would have thought that adding Ranch mix to sugar and butter would be great. The changes that I made were adding brussel sprouts and juice and zest from 1/4 orange. Subtle enough to make you go "huh?!". I will definately make again!

Beef Tenderloin with Potatoes

Reviewed: Nov. 1, 2009
I made this for dinner tonight and I have to say that everyone LOVED it! A 7 y.o. guest had 4 helpings of the meat. Everyone was ooo-ing and ah-ing over the meat, gravy and potaotes. I used baby yukon and baby red poatoes and left the skins on. I didn't pre-boil them like the directions said to because I used baby potatoes. Oh how wonderful it all came together. I will be making this again. Thank you, Clifford.

Cherry Pie III

Reviewed: Jun. 28, 2009
First of all, I'm not a cherry pie lover at all!!! But, friends of our invited us out to pick cherries. We picked 8 lbs.of 3 varieties. There weren't any bing. So, what was I to do ... I looked on Allrecipes.com and found this recipe for Cherry pie. Let me tell you that I LOVE this cherry pie. I used my own pie crust. I used about 4 1/2 cups of various fresh picked cherries and increased the almond extract to about 1 tsp. The filling is perfect and I can't eat enough. Too bad my husband is on Atkins - hehehe more for me. THANK YOU BETH!!!

Angel Food Cake II

Reviewed: May 31, 2009
I made this for a very special baby shower. Everyone loved it and said it was sooo much better than store bought or from a boxed mix. I added lemon juice and lemon zest to the mix with the vanilla. For the "frosting", made a lemon glaze for the top and just a little drizzled down over the side and decorated it with whole strawberries. It looks better if the strawberries are fresh so that the taste is optimum and the green tops look better. Definately will make again!!!

Pork Empanadas

Reviewed: May 5, 2009
Not sure what I did wrong. It wasn't good and it was underbaked. I used only the dough recipe and I filled it with shreded cheese to accompany chicken tortilla soup(found on this web site) and I also did some "dessert" empanadas stuffed with strawberry jam. I'll keep trying.

Pineapple Cherry Ice Cream

Reviewed: May 5, 2009
Surprisingly yummy summery taste!! I only tried it cuz it sounded interesting and the reviews were good. I made it for our "Teacher's appreciation week" treat day. I had my family try it out first and got lots of mmmmmm's. The only thing I wish would be different is for the pineapple to not have that frozen texture to it. But that is it. I'll make it again during the summer months! Thanks for sharing!!

Easy Mint Chocolate Chip Ice Cream

Reviewed: Apr. 26, 2009
Very Good. I used a mint extract and thought it was just regular mint. Both my husband and daughter (independently) said that it tastes like toothpaste. After I made the ice cream I read the label on the package and the bottle and one said that it was spearmint and oil of peppermint and the other one said that it was spearmint and wintermint. The taste was still very good but I will try peppermint next time. I will also use smaller chunks of chocolate as it was difficult to eat for kids. Yes, I will still make it again.

Grandma's Carrot Cake

Reviewed: Apr. 25, 2009
Very nice and moist. It could've used more carrot taste because it tasted like a sweeter version of a spice cake. My kids helped to measure out the ingredients and they were proud of the yummy results. I used a cream cheese whipped topping found on another recipe instead of the this one, but next time I will used the suggested topping and compare.

Chocolate Malted Ice Cream

Reviewed: Apr. 25, 2009
Yummy!! My husband made this and I thought he didn't chop the malted milk balls enough. I was surprised that the malted part didn't get mushy. Good flavor. We had to freeze in two batches and the second batch was creamier and we're thinking it's because it had more time to chill before freezing therefore, not having to churn as long = less air in the ice cream. Will do again.

Haitian French Toast

Reviewed: Apr. 25, 2009
Made this for my son's 3rd birthday breakfast and got rave reviews!!! I had 9 people over for breakfast and so I used a Challah loaf (that I made from a recipe from this site) and I also used a half a loaf of store bought french bread and sliced both the night before. Everyone agreed that the Challah loaf made the better french toast. I also zested a half an orange. Yummy! Will definately do again!!

Very Chocolate Ice Cream

Reviewed: Apr. 23, 2009
I'm having to beat my husband away from the ice cream. We're having my son's 3rd birthday and I'm making homemade ice cream and it's taking me days. This recipe is very chocolatey and creamy. I'll update after the party when we can have more than just a tsp of a taste. So, the ice cream was VERY chocolatety and rich!! It's the kind of ice cream that you can't eat fast, savoring every bite. I made a second batch with some modification: I mixed and cooked all the ingredients together, let it chill for a full 24 hrs. and I added 1/4tsp of mint extract. I'll be adding milk chocolate chips (chopped). I'll let you know how that turned out.

Vanilla Ice Cream VII

Reviewed: Apr. 20, 2009
This is yummy! When i try a new recipes I like to follow them to a "T" the first time, then make any tweeking the next time. With this recipe I had to make it in two batches. The first batch I chilled it for 2 hours, mixing it every now and then and it came out really good!! A bit "egg-y" but still really good. Then the 2nd batch chilled for 2 1/2 days (kids distract you you know) and I added some strawberry jam. The results were incredible! My husband said that he couldn't believe that I had made the frozen custard from Leon's (Milwaukee, WI)!! It was creamier and not as egg-y. I don't know if the jam or the more chilling time that had anything to do with it changing but OMG!!!! Now, he wants me to make this enough times to always have a stock of it on hand. That's enough compliment for me. thanks for posting this recipe!!

Whipped Cream Cream Cheese Frosting

Holy Cow this was fantastic!! No more store bought stuff for us, this recipe is the one for our family. I had none of the problems that other viewers mentioned. The next time I make this I do want to try it with powdered sugar instead and see what the difference is (if any). Again, awesome!!

Fresh Semolina and Egg Pasta

Reviewed: Apr. 11, 2009
O.K. this dough was too easy!! This was the first time I made pasta. I've been wanting to make pasta but was always too intimidated. My mother-in-law bought us a kitchenaid stand mixer with all the bells and whistle. I made lasagna and had enough dough to make several rounds of fettuccini noodles. Drying the noodles was a little more challenging then I originally thought, but now I know how they get the ripple effect of store bought lasagna noodles. This was tasty! I'll be making this again!! So, I just made it again and I was able to make one 9x13x2 pan of lasagna, two 10x8x3 tins of lasagna and a meatloaf pan of lasagna and it came out perfect! yah! we're set for the month!!

Miriam's Not-So-Secret Challah

Reviewed: Apr. 11, 2009
I just finished making this Challah (my very first one) about an hour ago. It's beautiful & fluffy, although not as sweet as I thought it would be with the 1/2 cup of sugar. I thought I screwed up because it was still sticky when I let it rise. I was so paranoid about adding too much flour making it stiff and kneading it too much which would make dense. I was able to make 3 loafs out of this batch. I think my converted jewish brother-in-law would be proud of me. Next time I won't be too afraid to add a little more flour or to knead it a little more.

Burger or Hot Dog Buns

Reviewed: Apr. 5, 2009
I made half burger and half hot dog buns. Not exactly sure what went wrong. Maybe because I ran out of AP flour and so I used almost 1.5 cups of wheat flour and I used bread flour for kneading - my buns didn't rise as much as I thought they would so they were more like mini burger buns. The taste was o.k. They were not fluffy but not so dense like hockey pucks. I'll try it again

Cinnamon Swirl Orange Bread

Reviewed: Apr. 5, 2009
my husband made this yesterday and I glazed it. Wow! that's good. My husband didn't put all the orange zest into the dough and next time I will make sure he does. One reviewer suggested to use butter in the middle for the filling instead of water and it made it gooey (not in a good way)in the very middle. At least, I'm assuming it's from the butter because everything else was done. My husband even took out his measuring tape to make sure he got the dimensions correctly - had to take a picture of that! Anyway, we'll be making this again!!! We're going to trying making french toast with this, this morning. Good day!

Grandma's Gnocchi

Reviewed: Apr. 1, 2009
Disastrous!! I thought I had left myself plenty of time to make this dish. It took me about an hour to get to a place where I can at least try a test batch. It was bland with a wierd texture. I was extremely frustrated! My dinner was over cooked and very late. I decided to go to plan B. Then my dear husband told me not to worry because he wasn't a big fan of dumplings anyway. Now he tells me. I don't know what I did wrong and I'm sorry to say that I won't try again. I hope you have better luck.

Mall Pretzels

Holy Cow these were great! My husband made these for us (he made our names in pretzel)while we were away for spring break and he eat a few to make sure they were good enough for us. I think he followed the recipe exactly. He's going to be in charge of making pretzels for the family. :)
