About this Cook
I feel like I'm starting to get into the groove of life and I'm 40 years old with 2 young kids - well, 3 if you count my husband. My family and I moved into a house with a "decent" kitchen. I feel like I can finally start to expand and experiment in the kitchen. Since I am now a stay at home mom, I have the time to research recipes. We have discovered our kitchenaid stand mixer (the 6qt. one) and we're having fun making our own pizza and bread.
My favorite things to cook
hmmm favorite? or the one dish that I know my family will eat for dinner without whining? Chicken in a pan with rice and some kind of veges. Otherwise, any kind of desert, yummy sweet and oh so sinful.
My favorite family cooking traditions
This is a new territory for us because I'm the one that cooks. I think we're starting something here by experimenting with our kitchenaid stand mixer for real this time (even though we've had it for over 6 years) with pizza dough and with some bread recipes.
My cooking triumphs
Anything that comes out tasting yummy. But the biggest triumphs was when my mom told me that I taught her how to make a great tuna melt. That totally blew me away.
My cooking tragedies
there are oh so many ... but the most tragic one was a few years ago I was trying to make lemon bars in a pyrex dish. I didn't realize that the oven wasn't working quite well and the top was good but the bottom was still under cooked so I thought well, I'll just cook the bottom and it'll be o.k. So, I turned on the electric burner on and put the pyrex dish on top and then I was distracted. A few minutes later we heard a loud "BOOM" and I had no idea what that was until I walked into the kitchen and I saw the destruction. Lemon bars and glass pyrex everywhere and it even scortched and melted some of the linoleum flooring. OUY VEI!!!!

Beef Tenderloin with Potatoes
I made this for dinner tonight and I have to say that everyone LOVED it! A 7 y.o. guest had 4 helpings of the meat. Everyone was ooo-ing and ah-ing over the meat, gravy and potaotes. I used baby yukon and baby red poatoes and left the skins on. I didn't pre-boil them like the directions said to because I used baby potatoes. Oh how wonderful it all came together. I will be making this again. Thank you, Clifford.

Cherry Pie III
First of all, I'm not a cherry pie lover at all!!! But, friends of our invited us out to pick cherries. We picked 8 lbs.of 3 varieties. There weren't any bing. So, what was I to do ... I looked on Allrecipes.com and found this recipe for Cherry pie. Let me tell you that I LOVE this cherry pie. I used my own pie crust. I used about 4 1/2 cups of various fresh picked cherries and increased the almond extract to about 1 tsp. The filling is perfect and I can't eat enough. Too bad my husband is on Atkins - hehehe more for me. THANK YOU BETH!!!

Angel Food Cake II
I made this for a very special baby shower. Everyone loved it and said it was sooo much better than store bought or from a boxed mix. I added lemon juice and lemon zest to the mix with the vanilla. For the "frosting", made a lemon glaze for the top and just a little drizzled down over the side and decorated it with whole strawberries. It looks better if the strawberries are fresh so that the taste is optimum and the green tops look better. Definately will make again!!!
