I grew up on a farm in northern NY. We raised beef, pig, goat, chicken, geese, turkey. We always had a huge garden with plenty potato, corn, peas, beans etc. We even went out to pick wild berries. Fall on the farm was always a busy time with butchering and canning.
My favorite things to cook
Bread, cake, and desserts were my favorite. I also like Italian and German cooking. Mom never limited us and I can even make Beef Wellington and Yorkshire pudding. Mom made sure that we learned the traditions and added in a lot from other cultures. She taught me that food is a great way to learn about other people.
My favorite family cooking traditions
When my mom and I would spend 2 weeks baking traditional German cookies for Christmas. I still make some of them and can't show up on Christmas eve at my sister-in-law's house without them. There are so many really that it's hard to say just one.
My cooking triumphs
My biggest triumph was making Angel Food Cake from scratch.
My cooking tragedies
Corn Bread. It came out like door stops or rubber place mats. I still can't make it from scratch. Thank you Jiffy mix.
