About this Cook
I am a retired school teacher, mother of four, grandmother of 13, and great grandmother of one darling girl. My hubby and I have been married 41 years and we both enjoy cooking, gardening, and going to flea markets and auctions. He is actually a better cook than I am and likes to try new things. I usually stick to the basics.
My favorite things to cook
I love to cook desserts and breads. I also enjoy basic foods such as chicken and noodles, chili, stews, and casseroles. My hubby loves to grill and fix exotic sounding meals.
My favorite family cooking traditions
We have always loved to cook outside-on the grill or campfire. There is something special about eating food that has been cooked over a campfire. My dad brought a recipe for what we called cocoa syrup to the family and we have fixed this and served if over pancakes for years. I now serve this to my grandkids and they all ask for it when they visit.
My cooking triumphs
I don't have a lot of triumphs, just good basic cooking. I can make a mean calzone and they love my fruit salad and strawberry cake. I also fix some really good jam and jelly.
My cooking tragedies
I did not know how to cook when I got married and burned a pot of beans three times. I scaped out the no-burned beans and started again. Finally, there wasn't enough to scrape, so I had to throw them away. We still laugh about those beans. I can now fix a really good pot of brown beans, cornbread and fried potatoes that everyone wants.
