About this Cook
I'm a stay at home mom for an amazing baby girl named Jordana Rose. I really hate cooking, but I keep hoping one day I'll turn around and realize that I'm kinda into it. I do like to bake, I've been doing that since I was a little girl. I used to bake with my mom, and with my grandma Rose when she would visit. Of course, I had to go and marry a guy who not only likes to cook, but is good at it. Oh, and did I mention my mother-in-law, the gourmet cook?!? Sigh...
My favorite things to cook
Anything I can make in a minimum of pots, with very few, very common ingredients. Simplicity rules...
My favorite family cooking traditions
Baking with my mom and my grandma Rose. Also the cake I proudly baked for m father when I was three that turned out flat, where I thought salt and sugar were the same thing... to his credit, my dad ate two whole pieces. And is still alive today.
My cooking triumphs
Anytime I cook something from scratch, don't burn it or undercook it, and it even remotely tastes good.
My cooking tragedies
I've burnt soup. Like to the point of it being on fire, and me throwing the flaming pot out the window onto the front lawn, then running outside and spraying it with the garden hose. We had a burnt patch on the lawn for months. (visuals/mental images encouraged for a laugh...)

Tangy Cucumber and Avocado Salad
I thought this was delicious! I used basil instead of cilantro (I HATE cilantro), and used kosher salt. I folded in the avocado at the very end, and next time, I think I will skip the refrigeration wait period (though in summer, that would be good). Great job Jessie! It is a nice change from the usual.

Old German Honey Cookies
I made these for Rosh Hashana, and I also used 1 1/4 cup honey and 1/2 cup sugar. I thought they were very good, they remind me of cookies I used to eat in Israel called Duvshaniyot. Those have a glaze on them, which might have helped these. I only gave them 4 stars because I served them with some other cookies, and I had the most left over of these. My relatives said they were good, but a little bland, and not as sweet as they would have imagined. Anyway, they were delicious with tea.

Mrs. Sigg's Snickerdoodles
Really good! I only did three things differently. I left out the salt, and instead of butter, used all shortening. I also read it was better to use your hands for this, but I used the paddle attachment of my Kitchenaid. Once it was blended, I took it out and shaped it. I made the coating in a small bowl that I rolled the balls of dough around in. I baked it at 400 for exactly eight minutes. They were VERY puffed up and fragile, but hardened as they cooled. Just the right texture of chewy, and not sickeningly sweet. My husband LOVED them, and he doesn't normally like cinnamon. So good!
