I'm fairly new to the culinary world, but so far I love it. I'm just a kid that enjoys art, travel, and cooking. I live with my mom, dad, brother, and boyfriend and I just finished my second year of highschool. Right now I'm attending culinary school - I'm the youngest one there at age 16 - and I think it's the most fun I've had at any sort of learning facility in my life.
My favorite things to cook
I do love baking over anything else. I'm especially fond of baking and decorating cakes. Whatever my family requests of me I'm always eager to prepare, but oftentimes I find myself jumping at the opportunity to shove a cake onto the table. I've also been making sushi for longer than anything else (surprisingly), and I never get tired of that either. I also find myself cooking anything that's been a hit in the family that I know they can't get enough of. I love to try new ingredients and flavours all the time, so I'm constantly browsing the web looking for something interesting to cook.
My favorite family cooking traditions
We don't have many traditions in our family involving cooking (except, of course, Thanksgiving - I did the whole meal this year). I'm trying to kick everyone into getting some good old-fashioned plum pudding and goose on the Christmas table and some buffalo burgers with homemade chilli during the summer. I guess that the only tradition I actually have is making sushi on special occasions and pumpkin/apple pie during the holidays.
My cooking triumphs
I'm not sure. Other than having a few dishes become huge successes among my family and friends, I haven't quite gone as far as to win any awards for my food. I don't even have my driver's permit, so uh... I think I'll update this section at a later time.
My cooking tragedies
I once tried to make a chocolate souffle for my boyfriend's brunch, and I completely forgot the sugar! There have also been a few times that I was the only one that enjoyed my own cooking, such as when I prepared a German sauerbraten for Easter. My family thought that the piquancy just wasn't appetizing at all - even though I liked it a lot. There was also an instance in which I've made lobster bisque so terrible tasting that my Chef spit it out, but I'm sure that happens to everyone. I've been lucky enough to avoid any major spills or burns so far, but I need to knock on wood for that one.
