Um, 30 year old "new cook". I love to try out new recipes that are easy, inexpensive and kid-friendly (3 kids - all 10 and 11). I have a husband that will try ANYTHING, so I have put us both on this new diet where you eat 6-8 meals a day. Several rules, all easily manageable. #1. Meal has to be 200 calories or under. #2. Has to have mostly fresh ingredients. #3. Has to incorporate the recommended daily intake of fresh fruits and veggies. Pasta, Chinese, California Rolls HA! Easter is all about that pre-cooked ham from Winn Dixie (warmed in the oven to correct internal temp). At it's side on the dinner table is lightly mashed potatoes with a canned gravy (with a few spices thrown in), Heat and serve rolls topped with flavored butter, and a can of green beans flavored with a paste of garlic butter, flour and salt and pepper. I'm sure as our family gets more mature, we will hone our baking skills to be able to bake our own succulent ham. My first professional tasting and looking cake. 6 in layered chocolate cake with raspberry filling, almond flavored buttercream and a chocolate fondant OMG. I have a picture of it somewhere. I was TRYING to bake a cake for my then 10 year old step son, Carter. I wanted it to be appealing, so I purchased some of the yellow "happy birthday" hard candies that you stick on the cake to avoid having to write anything by hand. The cake was a disaster. I didn't cook it all the way and then I didn't let it cool down before trying to take it out of the pan. I ended up not having enought candy letters to spell his whole name out so instead I put "Happy Birthday Kid" on it. My family still teases me to this day~
