Genuine southern cook - (butter, bacon grease, vidalias). Many farm fowl. True free-range, organically fed - guineas, bantams, aracondas, lots of laying hens, geese, on 3 acres of land. Sometimes so many eggs - donate to homeless shelters/soup kitchens. Dogs, cats, birds socialized & share the yard w/out segregation. Geese think husband is "dad" - they walk together around our property, talking back & forth. Beautiful 28 yr old son (us in member picture) - respectful, caring, intelligent, hard worker -believes children are a blessing & will not have any till the time is right. I have a truly golden life.
My favorite things to cook
Prime rib roast(many raves-secret prep/cook -unanimously voted as the only roaster); yellow squash, vidalia & bacon bits, fried in bacon grease; mashed potatoes: unpeeled reds boiled w/whole head fresh peeled/sliced garlic, drain, add chives, bacon bits, butter, sour cream & mash; pasta de fagoli; lasagna; pork butt/shoulder stew-use fresh herbs/vegetables; black eyed peas-ham hocks & green chilies; fried bologna, eggs & gravy; collards; rutabagas; baked sweet potatoes, sliced, fried in butter w/maple syrup & pecans; and many more.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Holiday/or just get together feedings; synchronized kitchen waltz-each cook has a "signature" dish. (watch grandma - when you're not looking, she's raiding the cooking pots). Always many friends, as well as family. Separate room for kids to play - family movies, games - not video. After feeding - lounging on the back porch w/belts, buttons loosened, allowing room for homemade peach/blueberry cobblers, fruit pies, with ice cream. Real conversation instead of watching movies, etc. Again, a golden life.
My cooking triumphs
All the above mentioned foods, plus more.
My cooking tragedies
Homemade chicken pot pies - will never live that disaster down - husband makes sure. Good mulch pile fodder. Will never try that again.
